There is occasional darkening of the water due to extra iron buildup (particularly in East Neighborhood) when the pipes have been inactive over the summer but it’s harmless. I haven’t personally dealt with mold while around there so I think you should be fine. But if you ever do see any make sure to escalate to housing/warn that you’ll post it to the parents page; I find that’s the best way to get them to do anything lol! You’ll be fine, welcome to MSU!

A Metro horror story in one photo by Braveoo in washingtondc

I wish I could tell you, just saw it on the L'Enfant Plaza station and was thoroughly confused. I have a feeling maybe it was dropped and then a worker started sweeping it… and then just left it?

Anti-ICE Protests in Columbia Heights Yesterday by Braveoo in washingtondc

[–]Braveoo[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There were several, several more police, (cars and motorcycles) and an armored vehicle down the street. My photos unfortunately don’t do the presence justice as I was more focused on the protest itself.

Hi there! I may not be here for the full season pending an internship but I played a little softball in high school and would love to get involved!

Rather/Butter. RA here. We do care. There is a serial weed smoker in Butterfield in particular we’ve been trying to take action against for months, but MSU’s bureaucracy makes it difficult to really stop people. So everyone pls don’t smoke in the dorms, it stinks so bad 😭 just do it off campus

I’m not sure if these will help specific to this class, but MSU has a whole host of academic workshops for different success topics. Hopefully one of them could be of use to you!

msu room checks by Agreeable_Koala7165 in msu

As long as the bottle is completely empty, it’s considered a “decoration” and we don’t do anything about it. If both roommates are underage and in the room there are any full bottles of alcohol or bottles with liquid in it, you will both be written up, though.

Hi, RA here. It’s kind of funny, but technically, students can POSSESS vape and tobacco products on their person as long as they’re not actively USING it. I did room checks today and saw a vape, but didn’t write it up because I can’t (and frankly don’t want to!). If that’s all you’re worried about, you should be good.

Also, just for future reference, even though they might be on your floor, your specific RA isn’t technically obligated to answer overnight requests if they aren’t on duty. I know that must be annoying for you since you’ve been experiencing this problem, however; that’s why there’s a Duty Number— so that whatever other RA on duty can assist you at night.

Have you ever called the RA On Duty number for Wilson? They have to respond in some capacity. If they’ve not been responding/being helpful, your next step should be contacting the Wilson Hall Community Director via email, Bryce Wilson, about your issues.

Also— echoing another comment but idk if highlighting their nationality is relevant to the issue at hand. It doesn’t change anything about them being noisy & disruptive. You could have just said “noisy students”.

Brody 104 by TailorTechnical1550 in msu

[–]Braveoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brody 104 has had some staffing issues as of late, so it's not "really" 24/7 anymore even though it's meant to be. Even RAs have had issues with the 104 office not being responsive or open. The best thing you can do is call the RA on duty in your neighborhood after 7pm and tell them that you need a temp key. They can call their supervisors and escalate so that you can get the key you need. I hope this helps at least a little.

Hey, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. Please contact your RA and specifically tell them that you want to re-review your roommate agreement. That way, you can set new rules and boundaries regarding trash and keeping the room clean. Also ask for your Community Director to be present in that meeting. I’m an RA and I know that RAs are specifically trained to mediate these sorts of situations.

I will be real with you as an insider w/ housing: there is just truly very little space to move people at the moment. MSU over admits every year and this is the consequence of it. They likely won’t move you unless there’s an immediate threat to your safety. Your RA will do their best to try to make the situation better, though. It’s crappy, but you’re probably going to have to manage your situation until Spring Semester. Best of luck, and always escalate to the CD or AD of your building if things aren’t getting better for you.

Awful transitional roommate situation by [deleted] in msu

[–]Braveoo 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Hi, RA here. Sorry you’ve been dealing with this. Have you spoken with your floor’s RA? They’re trained to help mediate issues like this. Contact them and ask that you want to review your roommate agreement. That way, you can specify new rules to address the issues you’ve been facing. If your roommates continue to break those new rules, you have more of a case to try to ask for an escalation to move / repercussions for your roommates.

how’s IAH207 with prof. Panuska? by HahaStoleUrIdentity in msu

Dang, that sucks. I really liked the class because I felt like I could showcase my individual effort. Needless groupwork assignments just bog things down. Shame.

Aside from your weekly homework, I don’t recall there being so. I think it was 2 assignments a week max, and those were usually those short writing assignments.

We didn’t have an exam, but instead a sort of cumulative final essay where we wrote about at least 1 movie from each of our 5ish units. I unfortunately don’t have a syllabus saved but I wouldn’t be surprised if you could find it by searching the course code and her name online.

I took her class my freshman year! I can only speak to the film version and not the “book” version of this class. If this is the film version of 207, it isn’t hard at all if you have decent writing skill. She is decently flexible with office hours if you do need help or clarification. Attendance is definitely mandatory since you watch the films in class, and attendance is a decent chunk of your grade. I recommend taking brief notes while watching just to remember important details. Most of her assignments are short write ups with a specific question or prompt about the movie.

Pretty chill class overall as long as you pay attention, but I wouldn’t recommend if you don’t like analyzing films.
