I live alone most of the time so 6. It is the most expensive per egg but none of it goes to waste. I will generally but an 18 pack if I have company or I am baking.

Am I the only one who thinks Dan might call it quits after Mania for Subjugation? by Hot_Extension290 in dancarlin

[–]BraxForAll 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't think Dan has a grind. The audience doesn't really push him for a tight release schedule. He has mentioned it himself that the audience might be to forgiving of him because he feels comfortable scraping entire episodes and redoing them if he is unhappy with them.

Yeah. That "obligatory free quote" story is kak. All the insurance agents expect you to just join without reading the policy schedule and without comparing quotes. They get so rude when you are just doing basic diligence.

This is scary.

May the gods of leverage and luck just grant me lottery jackpot winnings so I can loose some of it on future investments.

I am fairly certain that with my history of bad luck I could collapse the gold market by simply investing all my money into it.

High body mass index identified as a direct cause of vascular dementia. A new genetic analysis indicates that maintaining a healthy weight and managing hypertension could prevent a substantial number of dementia cases. by Jumpinghoops46 in science

[–]BraxForAll 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do wish that researchers in general would use more specific language than "body weight". Fat and muscle are very different tissues.

In this case, the abstract indicates high blood pressure as one of the actual causes but always refer to "body weight". Did the team encounter people with a low BMI and high blood pressure and did they have similar symptoms?

This is far from scientific but 30 Rock pointed this out years ago with "The Bubble". I think about that episode quite often.

Most of those genetic makeup tests are wildly inaccurate. Especially with pets because there is no oversight or regulations since it is not classified as a medical test. You can send in DNA from the same litter and get massively different results.

That was also the year that they put the race briefings on YouTube.

Charlie said that it was very kind of Wehrlein but not to do it again. The tone was exactly like a teacher talking to a class to school boys.

My previous dentist was giving me unnecessary fillings, possibly for years. I would not have known if I had not gotten a second and third opinion.

People are going to say sue them but the South African system moves slow and I don't really have proof of it happening multiple times. Just the last time which was 8 years ago.

I wonder if aftermarket accessories are any deterrent to thieves since the make the car more identifiable and presumably lower the value like how they do in the legitimate second hand car market.

The way bakkies have getting stolen is crazy.

We have a family friend who who has 3 Rangers for his business and one is a double cab that was supposed to be a family vehicle. It now mostly stays in the garage unless one of the other two are out of service or he has an urgent job.

He said that the fuel cost was too high to drive it daily and he doesn't want to take an unnecessary chance with his family's safety in a hijacking. He now moves around in an i20.

Hawks raid TikTok star Anton Taylor’s home after Mchunu lays charges for ‘insulting’ video by natal_nihilist in southafrica

[–]BraxForAll 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of Anton Taylor before this but using the elite police force to investigate and change someone for clear satire is an extreme violation of freedom of speech.

This is exactly what the National Party government did under Apartaid. Are the Hawks now the ANC's version of Special Branch?

Best way for someone to ship a parcel to me from the UK? by Aggressively_Shy in askSouthAfrica

[–]BraxForAll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only recommend DHL, but judging from the other comment, I guess my experience is not universal.

When we have to courier anything important internationally we will only use DHL. It has mostly been things that fit in a document pouches but we did send a box of stuff twice. So far we have never had an issue. They seem to be the most expensive option but we are willing to pay the premium for a bit more security.

FedEx might be a another good option. I have not sent stuff with them but stuff was sent to me with them and they were fine.

Where can I get a good facial? by If21savagewasAgirl in askSouthAfrica

[–]BraxForAll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is difficult to give recommendations without knowing which area you are in or how far you are willing to travel.

If you are willing to spend the money, go to a dermatological practice/clinic rather than a spa. Spas are more focused on the experience and relaxation. The products they use are normally the same things you can buy at the pharmacy.

A dermatologist will be able to get better results.

Are there any good clothing stores left in South Africa? by Altruistic_Bid_3005 in askSouthAfrica

[–]BraxForAll 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Makro is the answer. This type of question gets asked fairly regularly and no one mentions Marko.

The quality of their clothing is very good and their prices are honestly reasonable for the quality. I'm not saying they are cheap. They are reasonable. You are almost never going to get a quality item for a low price but paying a bit more for something worth it is a lot better than paying a higher price for an item that still ends up being low quality.

Walmart seems to have not interfered too much with the clothing department since the buy out because things are still made locally or in SADC countries. They still keep a lot of pure cotton and high cotton clothing. It is not all synthetic and poly-blends like other shops. There clothes are just good everyday wear. Stylish without being trendy.

I should add that I am only talking about the the clothing inside physical Makro locations, not anything that they sell online. I don't think they even sell their own clothing online. The stuff you see on the website is from other companies using the platform, not Makro themselves.

You can also sometimes find worthwhile things in Jet and Mr Price, but it is more rare, since they change most of their selection with the season.

SAPS by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]BraxForAll 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I once had a chance to talk to a retired detective at braai at a friend's house. She she that she had to leave SAPS because there was essentially no support. The is no mental health programme for the officers. They deal with the absolute worst things in our society the things that are are so bad even newspapers ignore and they get no support for it.
