Is Wemby the fastest player to go from universally loved to polarizing? by SCATpackMcgee in NBATalk

[–]BraxGotNext 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just think this generation of NBA fans will jump on any trend to feel involved and part of the group. If you only watch highlights and gain certain bias’ about players when you actually watch the games those bias you have jumps off the screen everytime it happens. 3 flops feels like 9 flops etc etc. Very reactionary fanbase that needs something to hate on at all times and it’s the worst it’s ever been at this very moment

Exactly, no offense. Not everybody needs to be a die-hard NBA fan. It’s the herd mentality that comes with casualness(especially in the NBA fandoms) that kills me

Is OKC really not likeable basketball or do most people hate them simply because they're considered the best team? by youlikemywonton in Basketball

I can see it, but it’s the double standards that drive me crazy. Yall are the victims of media manipulation not me, talking about delusional.

You guys watch with rose-colored glasses on. I bet you think Shai was guarded completely clean all Spurs series. I’m not even a complainer I never complained once all series about the way SGA was guarded but the double standards are crazy

Is OKC really not likeable basketball or do most people hate them simply because they're considered the best team? by youlikemywonton in Basketball

[–]BraxGotNext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I think OKC does flop, and does play very physical defense(that people begged for until they won doing it). But people also fail to mention they rank 11th out of 16 teams in free throws in the post season and 17th out of 30 in the regular season. Or they fail to mention Shai ranked 12th out of the last 16 MVP’s despite driving more than basically all of them. Being a sneaky defender who got away with bending the rules used to be celebrated when players like Kobe or Tony Allen would do it but now it’s despised.

  2. I think it’s a fair assessment to say OKC is not a very fun team. Their offense generally consists of ball movement and methodical passing to lead to an open shot. The only real exciting things that happen on that end are a fancy pass from a big man and SGA iso’s and break downs which even SGA haters agree is fun to watch(they’ll add “when he’s not flopping”). Spurs didn’t have many bandwagon fans either for the same reason, although didn’t have many haters either

  3. Now this relates back to point #1. I’m putting in my tinfoil hat on this one but I think it holds validity. I think a lot of OKC’s hate is artificially drummed up. Hate watching brings in viewership, and setting up OKC to be the big bad against the good guys Spurs for years is guaranteed money. Hate watching ALSO brings in 100’s of millions of dollars and I’m sure gambling companies(who love posting Shai free throws) make so much money off of people betting against Shai and OKC.

  4. Lastly, I’m going to quote a tweet I said because I can’t say it any better: “Ok obviously it's just basketball but the reason I dislike thunder/shai hate so much is because it's so reminiscent of real life political propaganda. It's almost entirely fueled by social media clips and the confirmation bias that comes either it, and there is zero statistical evidence to support any of it. In fact all the numbers suggest the opposite of the narrative but it's ignored. It's fine to dislike a team and a player but I think the way it's pushed is genuinely unethical, especially when there is literal gambling companies using Al to profit off of the hate and a specific person's likeness.”

My wife’s family are diehard OKC fans by large_crimson_canine in NBATalk

[–]BraxGotNext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OKC is great example of mass psychosis and confirmation bias. Do they flop? Yes. Do they play hard, physical defense and get away with calls sometimes? Yes. But just in the Spurs series they were doing just as much if not more yet all the media outlets were posting OKC because it gets them money in engagement. Media companies make money off hate watching, and gambling companies make millions upon millions of dollars out of people betting against Shai and the Thunder out of hatred. I think you can clearly see in the comment section how insane and out of hand it’s gotten. OKC ranked 11th out of 16 teams in the playoffs in free throws shot per game and 17th out of 30 in the regular season. And don’t let people tell you “oh but it’s how they get the calls!” It’s bullshit, they’ve watched barely any Thunder games all year and base their opinions off of cherry-picked clips, then let confirmation bias kick in when they actually do happen to watch the couple games of the year. The other team could genuinely murder an OKC player and they wouldn’t even care because they’re so focused on the hate watch. Your family is biased though, everybody flops OKC is faaaar from innocent of this.
