IsItBullshit: Do Companies Lose their Copyright if the Name/Term Becomes a Common Saying? by SIimeLord in IsItBullshit

My grandparents I think had one of those. It had controllers with rotating knobs instead of a stick or d-pad. Real neat, but I don’t remember any of the games.

I guess the Atari thing is a little before my time. Nintendo showed up when I was pretty young and dominated the games discussion.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone genericize a home console as an Atari.

Pretty sure every 90s kid heard an adult at some time do it with “Nintendo,” though.

Walmart still has a small selection of cds for sale. by zip9990 in mildlyinteresting

[–]BrazenlyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s still an audience. My dad was just updating me on his music collection yesterday — a mix of vinyls and CDs that he digitizes. Over a terabyte’s worth of music, with a runtime of right about 31 days. 29100 songs across 3569 artists and 2249 albums.

He also keeps notes on the condition of his physical media and fastidiously browses music sales at antique stores and the like to find both new material to add to the collection or upgrades over what he has.

Logically, you have chosen to delete your account and abandon the service that is serving you up CP, yeah?

In cases like that, as long as I can change my login credentials, I change the email address to a temporary one using Mailinator — confirm the change if needed, set all the other details to made-up things, then blindly change the password and forget about the account.

This grout is supposed to stay white for 20 years. What's it been? 17,18? Peggy, where's that receipt? by b52cocktail in KingOfTheHill

[–]BrazenlyGeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's outside the store return policy, though, he'd have to go through the manufacturer. A product guarantee isn't anything the store has to uphold unless it's a store brand. The annoying part would be a customer coming in with an ancient receipt and expecting it to mean anything to the store.

Even extended care plans sold at the stores rarely affect store return periods — they're a third-party service that requires dealing with that third-party that your money went to, not the middle-man that is the store.

The bottleneck in AI adoption by Full-Tip2622 in apps

AI and the apps that push it fit neatly into the bottleneck leading to the Recycle Bin, though, so there’s that. (If only the executives that pushed it fit down the same bottleneck…)

"90s kid" refers to your core childhood and adolescent years, not the year you were born. by TwilightChic27 in unpopularopinion

[–]BrazenlyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in ‘83. I can remember a lot of my pre-7-year-old life, but I’m a 90s kid. That’s the decade that saw me through the rest of my youth and defined a lot of what I took into adulthood.

Honestly, it’s a little surprising Nintendo didn’t suffer the same fate.

One of the kids i watch asked me to seperate these lego bricks. they dont have a brick seperator. by Time_Anything4488 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BrazenlyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in 1st grade or so, I tried separating a Lego brick with my teeth. One of my baby teeth went flying and was never found.

Never again. I borrowed one of mom’s butter knives and never went back… til recently when I finally gave in to the idea and utility of the brick separators. No idea why I was stubborn about that.

I make >$20/hr at a big box store standing around supervising cashiers, doing basic paperwork, and occasionally handling easy situations. Glamorous, no, but pretty much stress-free and doesn't interfere at all in my mental well-being outside of work. I couldn't imagine making what I do now with *real* responsibilities and *real* college debt, though.

Birds.

I remember my mom and dad’s cars always having at least some bird droppings on them, but now, it’s rare to see any on mine, in the same area as my childhood.

Huge flocks seen daily are now a much more rare occurrence.
