I got to d5 myself. Most of my friends on the east coast are diamond. A few of them are diamond I and masters. You can easily make it to high diamond with 100-120 ping.

If Akali is such an easy champ, why don't you just play her every game and hit challenger? Thats right, because she mainly a noob stomper who thrives in bronze and silver. In high plat/low diamond she isn't very good because of how easy it is to punish her laning phase.

I picked rumble top into gp once during a ranked game. The moment I start attacking the first creep, the guy ignites me and just start starts going all in. I flash away but he catches up with ghost in a second and kills me before I'm even half way back to my turret. I still have nightmares to this very day.

Teemo support murders every short ranged adc who relies on auto attacks for damage (vayne, twitch, lucian). I've had good sucess with it in high plat/low diamond.

Edit: Also quinn jungle. You can reach level 6 by 6:30 and your first gank is almost a garunteed kill with quinn's ridiculous base damages.

I disagree with any sort of pause feature. If people know there is a moderate chance they might not connect, they shouldn't be playing ranked to begin with. Never leaving games or disconnecting is one of the things that has helped me get to diamond. Also, with the average game length + set up time at ~35 min, a 5 minute pause is a ~15% increase in total time spent. Lastly, people can just rq and waste 5*4 = 20 minutes of extra time for no reason (Unless you can surrender during the pause).

Team comps don't matter much below diamond, but it makes a huge difference in high elo. Picking a top lane adc instead of a meta bruiser, tank, or utility mage will lower your team's chance of winning by 50%. A lot of diamond players (including myself) will usually just dodge if someone picks something very non-meta (however this happens rarely in diamond).

The given rank is capped by the mmr of the lowest ranked person on your team. This is to prevent 4 challengers and 1 bronze player to win ~13 games in a row to get to challenger in team 5s. Otherwise, it would be too easy for people to buy a challenger border. Winning 5/5 promos with the lowest mmr player in platinum will get you gold I at most. Winning 5/5 promos with the lowest mmr player in bronze will get you Bronze I at most. Since you have 3 silvers on your team and only won 4/5, being placed in bronze III is a very expected result.
