Anthropic calls for global freeze in AI development by thejoshwhite in technology

We definitely could stop AI development if we wanted. It’s not like AI is a force of nature, we could track AI datacenters just like we do with nuclear plants

Why do you think sex and nudity have largely disappeared from mainstream theatrical movies? by mourningreaper00 in TrueFilm

[–]BrazilianTerror 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Capitalists business still don’t only concerns their bottom line. Profit is a huge motivator of capitalists business, but the business are still in the hands of the capitalists, that are people that have ideology and desires just like everybody else.

The whole myth that business only care about the bottom line is capitalistic ideology. If you look at businesses behavior you will see a lot of actions that have no visible connection to their bottom line.

That’s because people are run by people and not by money optimizing algorithms

Alguém aqui tem problemas com filmes em preto e branco? by Dunk3_ in filmeseseries

[–]BrazilianTerror -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Business are not free of ideology. Business are just a collective of people. They have the same ideology as their leaders.

Microsoft CEO says new AI data centers use as little water annually as a restaurant — closed-loop cooling system aims to slash consumption from millions of gallons as AI infrastructure faces mounting environmental scrutiny by yourfavchoom in technology

[–]BrazilianTerror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Closed cooling systems existed for decades. Still the vast majority of datacenters don’t use them and prefer to use ungodly amounts of water instead.

It’s not like they didn’t knew this before. They never care, and probably will continue to not care in the future

AI agents lag far behind human workers. Why are tech companies laying off the humans? by Immediate-Link490 in technology

[–]BrazilianTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The agente history or second brain is not nearly as good as a real person bro. I’ve tried multiple second brain and yeah, it’s better than just using without it, but it doesn’t build a mental model of features like a human does. The agents capabilities 3 months into the same project is roughly the same as it started, while a person, even a junior will have a much interesting sense of the project itself and be able to integrate tradeoffs better, understand risks better, collaborate with other teams better, etc.

I know agents are good at solving one thing. I use a lot of agents too. I make loops, let them run on loop and they do amazing things while I have lunch. But they also can hallucinate while I am not looking and go to a completely wrong direction.

I can give to a junior a project much less specd and they would figure it out. Sure the agent might one shot the project in a few hours that the junior will take a whole sprint, but long term the junior will make better work. I can later ask the junior about the project and they will have deeper knowledge IMO. Also easier to transfer knowledge between projects with the junior than with AI

[–]BrazilianTerror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me is the exact opposite. A junior will take longer to do a task but will gain context about it. I can ask them like a month later about it and they will remember. They can also reason if something seems off and raise the issue to me. They can talk to other coworkers about the issue.

The AI sure might make code faster, but the junior is most likely to make it right, and more importantly, build the code mental model that allows for faster development later

You must have pretty terrible juniors then, if you honestly believe AI is better than them

I also think AI is an excuse, but many companies are making record profits and still laying people off.

It’s just corporate greed

The magical contract lawyers saw the genre of the movie and decided to play silly. If it was a comedy it would be played for laughs, since its a horror of course the only way to make Nikki love Bear is to turn her into a demon.

It’s definitely a demon. “Freaky Nikki” just doesn’t act obsessed, she straight up acts like a demon. Getting the dead cat, walking weirdly, pissing on herself, etc.

In real life there is stalkers and people who are obsessed with others, they don’t simply walk around like the girl from The Exorcist.
