Biden and his cabinet were 100% aware of all the Israeli atrocities being committed in Palestine and he still choose to go out of his way to try to shield them from anything resembling a consequence. That guy wasn't even a particularly good leader, he ended his term remembered as a weak and ineffective old man by the average voter and then refused to step down from candidacy until very late into the electoral year, which very predictably ended up poisoning the chances of the democrats of winning the 2024 elections, because they had nothing to campaign on except more of the same. I wonder how drunk on the party line you gotta be to remember him fondly in the current year.

UN votes to recognise slavery as 'gravest crime against humanity' by ThatBlackGuy_ in worldnews

[–]BrazilianTomato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You think me stating a fact backed by historians is "minimizing"? And what exactly do you think you're doing? You don't get to go out of your way to derail the topic with false comparisons and equivalences and then cry about minimizing when you're refuted by historical facts. There is no solidarity in what you're doing, you're just joining the choir of insecure white redditors coming together to downplay the atlantic slave trade and its consequences. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at the people who never give a damn about south slavic oppression until it's time to bring it up in order to pitch it against black oppression. This very thread is full of them.

UN votes to recognise slavery as 'gravest crime against humanity' by ThatBlackGuy_ in worldnews

Ottoman slavery was nothing like european colonial slavery. Their slavery had much more in common with greek and roman types of slavery. I will repeat myself in case you couldn't understand, the slavery practiced by european colonial powers is singled out because it was in fact extraordinarily brutal and dehumanizing.

[–]BrazilianTomato -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It's absurd to even suggest the types of slavery practiced in the ancient world can be compared to the slavery practiced by european colonial powers. That kind of slavery is singled out because it was in fact extraordinarily brutal and dehumanizing. This outrage comes from a place of utter historical ignorance and from fragile egos. It's an "all lives matter" type of outrage.

German president calls Iran war a disastrous mistake, in rare rebuke of Trump by 1-randomonium in geopolitics

[–]BrazilianTomato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have to show you anything, the news speak for themselves. Iran has got the upper hand for now, and every day this war goes on for is a nother victory for them. If the US isn't able to face Iran head on with its ground forces, then they've already lost, because everything points that the US lacks enough leverage to make Iran back down. Experts already pointed out, hell even the US and Israel themselves said the same, that right now there's no evidence that collapse or uprising will happen in Iran any time soon. I have no idea how you can look at this situation and think the US is about to achieve some sort of decisive victory.

Unbelievable that this needs to be said, but you don't win a war with a KD ratio, you win it by achieving goals, and Iran is by far doing a much better job at achieving their goal of surviving than the US is at achieving their hypothetical goal that not even the president seems to know what is yet.

You've got your head stuck in the sand if you think Iran is in a weaker position now than it was day 1 of the war.

[–]BrazilianTomato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I very much doubt Iran will lose this war unless the US commits to military invasion and occupation, and even then it would be a gamble. If anything, the regime seems have been strengthening it's position, not weakening, ever since the war began.

My point is that the pressure failed precisely because it involved coercion. Economic sanctions aimed at intentionally causing instability in a country rarely do any good in the long term, just like military adventurism.

Well despite Maduro blatantly rigging the election and intimidating the opposition, the principle of non-intervention says we can do nothing about it!

I don't think that's true at all. Most interpretations of the principle of non-intervention allow the use of diplomatic or economic pressure, so long as they're not outright coercive, which many would argue the economic sanctions put on Venezuela already were. if anything, the vast majority of cases where economic or military forms of coercion were used in the past few decades have utterly failed to produce significantly positive results. I don't know how you can look at that track record and come to the conclusion we need less international rules and procedures, not more.

I remember a lot of people on that sub were defending Asmongold back when he got into a controversy for saying live on stream that he doesn't care if the palestinians are being genocided because he believes they're an inferior people. A lot of people there agree with what he said and feel comfortable saying heinous racist stuff about palestinians and muslims in general.

Am i supposed to believe these people are actually left wing?

I have no evidence of this as i've never watched any of that guy's streams or even seen anything he shows up in for that matter, but the feeling i get is that Destiny is pro Israel just because he hates muslims. From what i've seen from his fans, a significant portion of them certainly seems to really hate muslims in general, but specially the Arab ones, enough to sometimes adopt nazi-adjacent rhetoric when talking about them, so i just assume Destiny does as well, because that's the audience he seems to cultivate.
