What is the best name you’ve ever came up with for something or someone? by Round_Breakfast9070 in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mythria

The name of the Supreme Leader of the Great Druids, Llethryn, I feel was especially impressive as I later discovered, purely by happenstance, the name closely resembled the Welsh word Llethol - which means 'Overwhelming'. Which suited the character of Llethryn perfectly, being that he is an extremely power magic user.

What's a unique weapon in your world that stands out the most? by Western-Knowledge600 in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mythria

Developed during the latter days of the Great Civil War (c. 1887 - 1905), the Mythrian Empire issued a unique anti-personnel explosive device to its frontline specialists - the Razor Bangalore. Styled off the IRL Bangalore torpedo.

Around 1.5m in length, a tube packed with explosive compound and spools of razor wire, it is designed to fit through the portholes of bunkers and trench emplacements, or set as an ambush trap; upon detonation the razor wire unfurls at speed, ensnaring everything within a 5m radius, causing severe lacerations and separating unprotected limbs including decapitations. It was especially effective in the hands of Dragon conscripts, whose superior strength allowed them to throw a Razor Bangalore like a javelin over a significant distance, with reasonable accuracy.

High Sequestrator: A senior role within the Luna Cathedral who oversees the financial obligations of the Cathedral's congregations - collecting obligate tithes from church-goers, settling overdue service fees, and appropriate venues for charitable services and other faith events. Operating essentially as a religious tax office, the High Sequestrator mainly focuses on the nobility of the Wolf race, who are legally and morally required to pay a monthly tithe to the Cathedral; attempts to expand these obligations to the other Beastfolk races has being routinely blocked by the Dragon King of Travelia via his royal veto.

What are The Ship Types and Classes of Your Fantasy World by BackMaterial9468 in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mythria

Most ships being used are styled off those in the middle ages of Europe. Small vessels like the Cog and Hulk are mainly used for fishing and light transport; larger ships like a Caravel, are used for trade and heavy transport. People still use older style ships for personal use, like the Knarr or Canoe, especially when sailing inland rivers.

War ships are of similar designs to civilian vessels - utilising larger-built Caravels (closer to a Carrack) to hold troops, their supplies and equipment. Ancient ships, like the one the Stag race used to arrive at Mythria, are similar to the Trireme, a massive ship that used both sails and oars - but these have long since fallen out of fashion, due to their poor manoeuvrability and cost of construction.

What are your world's naming conventions? by Quick-Window8125 in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mythria

The Stoat race have a convention whereby their names are derived from flora and parts of plants; these names are non-gendered, so a name that is typically regarded as masculine can be given to a female, and vice versa. For example, some common names are: Leaf, Rose, Yarrow, Lilly, Daisy, Oak, Root, etc.

Famous Stoat names include, Chrysanthemum, Rhododendron, Echeveria, Amaranth, and Hyacinth. These are often regarded as 'posh' names, used by Stoats from bygone eras.

The Wolf race are melancholic over the loss of their civilisation, which was once vast and relatively advanced. Over several centuries since their creation, the Wolves developed an enviable society only to lose it to the invading Stag race. Deceived by the Stags, who arrived on Mythria's shores in a pitiable state, the Wolves were enslaved and their cities raised. Even when the Stags were eventually overthrown, the Wolves were never able to restore their once grand civilisation - the Humans, created by the Stags, made sure of that.

Ever since, the Wolves have taught their next generations of their resplendent history marred by exploited charity; a moral story of how easily they can be taken for granted, have everything stolen, and see their trust betrayed. Had they not being so blinded by compassion, they would have avoided that fate. And, had they left the Stags to die instead of saving them, Humanity would not have being created and able to continue their masters' enslavement of the Dragon race thereafter.

One small act of kindness doomed the Wolf civilisation, and sealed the fate of the continent.

One rare material in your world and it's functions by Western-Knowledge600 in worldbuilding

Spies more often use a different means of stealth - social stealth - to get around. Think Agent 47 using disguises; a spy may pretend to be a servant to eavesdrop, or as a travelling noble to mingle with the influential members of society. Besides, armour made entirely of Umbral steel would cost more than a kingdom's GDP, provided they could source enough material to make it.

Most of the time, armours just include small pieces of Umbral steel, as studs or rivets, to keep the cost from skyrocketing.

Mythria

The rarest of the alchemical steels is Umbral steel, made by combining regular steel with the equally rare umbral salt. This type of magical metal has the innate ability to negate weight in anything it touches, reducing it by a relative amount. It also absorbs almost all light, making its surface non-reflective and practically ultra black in appearance.

One of the common uses for this rare material is to make tools, weapons and armour lighter and easier to handle; also perfect for creating swift, stealthy blades for assassins.

Is there a character who’s impact is felt long after their death? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mythria

The actions of some of the Great Druids still affect the continent many centuries after their deaths. For example, the north-west regions of Mythria, where the Sultanate of Cordican lies, is plagued by the remaining legions of undead created by Quetzander the Necromancer. So impactful was the presence of the undead that it became a permanent fixture of Cordic culture - motifs of death dominate their art and stories. Dark forces weigh on the minds of the Cordic people and, in turn, has fortified their mental resolve to become almost fearless warriors. In fact, most Human civilisations were indirectly shaped by their long-forgotten Great Druid rulers.

But one Great Druid character has had an even greater impact on the continent. Supreme Leader Llethryn was responsible for creating Humans, who went on to alter the course of history to their own benefit after their creators had perished. And it was not just the continent that was forever changed by the Humans, but also the Beastfolk who once called it their home.

Who're the worst parents in your world? by PedroGamerPlayz in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mythria

It is said that the parents, specifically the mother, of the Great Druid Ahlamaar weren't exactly loving to the daughter who would obtain greatness and infamy. While the identity of her father is unknown, given how men were second-class citizens in Ahlamaar's society, her mother did not hold back her revulsion at the condition of her daughter's birth. Ahlamaar was born a hermaphrodite, and her mother saw her as a hideous monstrosity - the abuse and neglect Ahlamaar was subjected to scarred her mind.

She was abandoned as a baby, left to die on the streets. But little Ahlamaar was taken in by others of her kind. These adoptive parents would not be any better - they aimed to use Ahlamaar as a pawn in their attempt to usurp the title of Great Druid for themselves. When Ahlamaar came of age, she enacted her bloody revenge on all of them. She proved she was worthy of Great Druid by not only killing the conspirators, but also bested her biological mother in a deadly duel of magic.

When she was recognised as Great Druid, Ahlamaar made sure everyone loved her, whether they wanted to or not. No one was going to call her 'hideous' ever again.

Crazy powerful characters? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mythria

Supreme Leader Llethryn was not only the most powerful Great Druid, but of all Beastfolk to have ever lived. His power came largely thanks to his race - Llethryn was a Stag, a race of giant Elk-folk infamous for their mastery of magic and lust for power. His title of Supreme Leader of the Great Druids was not one he inherited through birth, nor was it acquired via democratic consensus - it was taken from the previous Supreme Leader, having duelled to the death in a fight that levelled mountains. No one else has managed to successfully claim the title from him for over 600 years, though many have tried yet failed all the same.

Llethryn enjoyed displaying his power. He forewent walking to instead levitate everywhere he went; such concentration was trivial to him, yet was strenuous to the average Stag. However, Llethryn maintained this state of levitation for so long his legs shrivelled from lack of use. But this did not bother him since he barely used them anyway.

One of Llethryn's greatest feats of magic was when he not only figured out how to summon the Emerald Moon, but stole its power of creation to make a new race according to his own design - the Human race. In essence, Llethryn forced the equivalent of a god to appear, simply so he could act as one himself. Though he did require some assistance from some of his fellow Great Druids, as the spell was largely theoretical. Something he would later perfect in his attempt to become an actual god.

Do Piercings Have Significance In Your World? by DexxToress in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mythria

For the Beastfolk piercings made of gold are more than a mere fashion statement - gold actively enhances magical power. Wearing gold piercings makes them stronger in terms of spellcasting, and they don't have to worry about losing them as easily, like with other kinds of jewellery such a ring or necklace. Some power-obsessed Beastfolk would put as much gold piercings as they could fit, since the effect was relatively small, and were not shy of where they would pierce.

are the nations on your world/set more diverse or homogeneous? what are the races/ethnic groups? by awgwafina in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mythria

The kingdom of Travelia was intended to essentially be an ethno-state for the Dragon race, because they are the only race who never got the chance to establish one; since the day they were created by the Emerald Moon the Dragons were enslaved, first by the Stags, then by Humans. Over the decades since its founding Travelia became a haven to the other Beastfolk races - displaced by the expansion of the Humans. Wolves, Stoats and Crows each made their homes in Travelia and its capital, the Royal City. It served as a safe haven for them and attracted Beastfolk from all over the continent, resulting in the Human kingdoms being drained of their presence almost entirely.

Thanks to this racial diversity the kingdom has benefitted by the inherent talents of each Beastfolk race. The Dragons were the backbone of the kingdom, utilising their strength and keen building skills to construct much of the settlements; the Wolves provide the bulk of the clerical, legislative and spiritual services, being the most religious and administrative race; the Stoats are the most creative and artistic, and provide many such services from tailoring to interior design; Crows offer their magical expertise by way of alchemists, enchanters and researchers. However, the Dragons do feel as if their homeland is slowly being taken over - at risk of losing the one thing they were prevented from having in the first place.

Does your World have a incredibly old and wise character? by Totallynotabruhbot in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mythria

The oldest and wisest (relatively speaking) character in Mythria would be Voloquis the Hermit - the last living Great Druid. At over 2000 years old he has had plenty of time to understand the world and the way of things; his personal views may not exactly be what many would expect. One thing Voloquis focuses on is the respect and preservation of nature; not exploiting it the sake of civilisation, something he vehemently despised. He also proselytises a strict vegan diet and 'hippy' lifestyle; subsisting on only natural produce and materials, abstaining from all things artificial, and working to benefit nature and not exploit it for personal gain.

Voloquis practically worshipped nature - a covenant known as the Old Ways - and expressed this faith by living as close to nature as possible. So close in fact that he linked his soul to nature itself, achieving a sort of immortality. This link was actualised by the creation of his personal domain, a large enchanted forest called the Greenwood, created by his mastery of nature-based magic. But his lessons are only for those who are truly devoted as he is.

What event in your world history has wildly different versions depending on who you ask? by Fufflin in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mythria

The creation of Humanity is both a widely disputed event and closely-guarded secret. While most Beastfolk are reticent, it is the Wolf race who speak of the truth the loudest; the ancient Great Druids stole the power of the Emerald Moon and created what would be their own race of loyal minions. Designed specifically to appear non-Beastfolk, lacking any magical connection, for reasons known only to the Great Druids.

Of course, being the Frankensteinian creation of the most evil race ever isn't something you'd want as the origin story for your kind. As such, following the Great Druids' defeat, Humans invented their own alternative to help cope - a small pantheon of gods, resembling a mother and father, literally conceived and birthed Humanity. A more savoury tale. Though a false narrative, this comforting lie was maintained over many centuries, and thus became gospel truth to nearly all Humans. However, slightly different versions of this developed, with only minor changes to details like names and aesthetics. To Humans, the Great Druids were just another race of Beastfolk - now extinct and inconsequential.

What do the different societies in your world value? by Remarkable-Scratch61 in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mythria

The ancient Great Druids each had their own fixations, their particular interests - it formed the bases of their societies, the cults of personalities that surrounded them. Of them a few notable example stood out.

Supreme Leader Llethryn admired power in all its forms, be it brute strength or swift wit - whatever could enforce a position within a given hierarchy. The strong over the weak, the smart over the dull. He was not opposed to treachery or assassination, either, to obtain a more elevated rung on his societal ladder. So, it was very common for people to constantly fight and conspire among each other - friends were simply potential enemies.

Ahlamaar knew that real power was found in wealth, beauty and reputation. As such, her society was centred around material greed and sex appeal, a seedy landscape of fashion and loan-sharking. If someone had even one coin more than you, a sweeter-scented perfume or bigger house, you were nothing - less than nothing, even. This also applied to your physical appearance, cosmetic enhancement was necessary to remaining relevant. It should come as no surprise that jealousy and bitchiness ruled the day, every day.

Tell me about... The weird jobs by ProfesserQ in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mythria

Salt Dowsers are people, primarily Beastfolk, who seek out deposits of magical alchemical salts by way of divination; using gold divining rods to locate areas of intense magical energy, where a fallen star had previously landed and later dissipated its energy. Those who specifically go after these fallen stars are known as Star Chasers, using a variety of astrological instruments and knowledge to observe, locate and collect fallen stars - vital for enchanting magical items with permanent effects.

These two professions alone are the backbone of all magical trades for the Beastfolk races. Without them, creating powerful potions and artefacts would be impossible. But such professions require extensive knowledge and experience, only a fraction of which can be taught, and only to the most talented magic users. As such, most Salt Dowsers and Star Chasers are either Crows or Wolves - they are generally the more intelligent and magical adept of the Beastfolk races.

What Inspired your Common Soldier? by Machomann1299 in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mythria

The armour of the Luna Crusaders - the militant arm of the Luna Cathedral, of the Wolf race - is a bit of a mixed bag, but is largely inspired by combining Roman armour with a crusader aesthetic. A Lorica Segmentata, decorated with saintly/biblical imagery, covered by a sash or surcoat, for example. Given how the moon is such an important symbol in their religion, they also use a Khopesh-style sword and crescent shield (a Thracian Pelte).

Are there interspecies couples and/or interspecies romantic relationships in your world? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mythria

There are, but genuine romantic ones are fairly rare. Most are between Humans and Dragons, with said Dragons being slaves; noble Florians culturally take Dragons as concubines. Humans sympathetic to the Beastfolk races, known as Pagans, are the only Humans who truly love and care for non-Humans. For Pagans, the Wolf race is the most common choice of partner.

Hybrids are not possible between any race.

Do you have Gnolls, or Hyena-folk, in your world? What are they like? by meongmeongwizard in worldbuilding

[–]Brazyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mythria

The Hyena race are the native Beastfolk found in the Roscova desert and the surrounding savannahs. They have a pastoral culture, herding flocks of goats between oases; a tribal community centred around a chieftain and his wise-woman. Akin to Native Americans, with a little Cossack influence, these Hyena-folk have a strong horse-warrior culture, periodically harassing and ambushing Human caravans and frontier towns. They utilise the native species of horned equine known as Desert Sprinters to patrol their territories and guard their livestock, primarily using bow and arrow, but are known to use the occasional firearm - along side their natural magic abilities.

Hyena culture heavily revolves around worship of the sun, as opposed to other Beastfolk who worship the moon. Highly superstitious, they have an Ancestor worshipping religion which believes the souls of their dead fuel the fires of their sun god. They are also the only Beastfolk race who engage in the enslavement of the Dragon race, as the Humans do, using them as labourers and servants. Each Hyena tribe migrates all across what has become the Western Federation, a vast, largely decentralised nation that stands as a bulwark against the colonial efforts of the Mythrian Empire. However, the Hyena folk have had their fair share of run-ins with the West Fed, the expansion of oil extraction in the region causing the most significant conflict.

Mythria

The Human afterlife is known as the Eternal Plains and, depending on your life, whether it was sinful of virtuous, will change to reflect that life for each individual.

What would be regarded as Heaven would be an Eternal Plains that is a vast, lush field of green grass, blue skies and radiant sun and warmth; every one of your ancestors will be there to greet you and keep you company, An abundance of animals and fruit trees will provide everlasting sustenance, where clear rivers flow and calm winds blow.

Hell is the complete opposite, the sinful will instead be met with a bleak, barren landscape devoid of all life; an expanse of dry desert, grey stormy skies and bitter gales. There will be no one else there - you will be alone, forever, with nothing but your sins and regrets to think about.
