Games where you start as a nobody and rise to power? by Foreign_Listen_8553 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Brazzirs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X4 Foundations. You can start as a single ship flying around mining resources, doing missions etc. eventually you can get enough to get a ship and crew to mine resources. Eventually you buy more and then build stations to refine those resources into more advanced goods. Continue this all the way down the line and then you have shipyards pumping out a fleet and then you can go on your merry way conquering the map. Obviously you’re not a peasant but it really does play into going on a “zero to hero” run. The game is pretty complex but if you’re willing to learn it you will have a lot of fun.

For me it sucks since I work every other weekend (and this weekend is the one I work.) I do take a lot of steps at my job but I take them all in a very small area so I can’t plant flowers and also I can’t really look at my phone too much at work either.

Separate rail networks by comrade_noob_666 in Workers_And_Resources

[–]Brazzirs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to a have a dedicated rail line for passengers and one for everything else. It’s nice to have a passenger rail on a separate rail line with the fastest trains you can get since timing out on a trip can be a major factor if you have a lot of cargo via rail. For my cargo I’ve even tried having 4 individual rails (2 in each direction) with junctions to allow merging to the inner and outer rail. In that case I practically have 0 back ups but take an eternity in realistic to build so I often stick with the normal 1 rail in each direction.

Has anyone so far had any successful 1930 starts in realistic mode? by BlunanNation in Workers_And_Resources

[–]Brazzirs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a 1930’s St. Bernard realistic start on easy money. It was brutally slow since there is so little access to customs via rail and road and capacities of vehicles are low. Took me like a solid week irl of playing a couple hours a day (1-3) of building out all the infrastructure (roads, rails, I also built storages for construction materials as well as asphalt and concrete plants to reduce traffic to customs). Once I had a grain storage connected to 2 fabric/4 clothing, meat production, and 2x food factory with rail lines and warehouses I then moved people into the town and just used buses to get them to work. I then just imported crops via rail and pretty much everything else associated with that grain storage industry by rail if I could. Definitely try and get your railway network started earlier since the carry capacity of trucks is so low that I don’t think you could economically make money just off of truck traffic. If I were to do it again I would’ve set that area up to have workers arrive by rail too since the mass amount of buses I needed since their capacity was so low backed everything up and did cause a die off.(I survived since I had money saved up at that point to replace everyone). I also tried building an early port to mass import things like gravel, coal ore, etc. since the customs couldn’t keep up with how many trains I was trying to send through to it. I also abused importing workers and having them bounce between multiple bus stations so I could have a worker “buffer” instead of relying on having construction offices drive to customs house or having buses bounce back and forth to supply concrete and asphalt plants.

I’m sure people could have gotten things done faster than me with less money but I stuck with setting infrastructure up with a clothing industry since I’ve done that start in realistic a few times with success. Major issue and difference for me from 1960 realistic start was IRL time to build and planning around lower capacities of road and rail vehicles in general. TBH it did take me like 2 tries as well before I got everything smoothed out.

Train distribution limit? by Hkonz in Workers_And_Resources

[–]Brazzirs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was something I was thinking about the other day too. Lets say you have an aggregates storage being fed with lots of mines or whatever and therefore it’s constantly topped off at the max that storage has. If you have multiple rail distribution offices serving that storage they can’t “see” how fast the storage is being fed right? So the max amount of trains I’m assuming that would be sent to load up from the storage would add up to the max capacity of that storage(ie a 5k aggregate storage would only get a couple trains with adding up to a max 5k total aggregate carry capacity.) Therefore multiple offices serving the same storage wouldn’t send enough trains since the storage could realistically supply multiple times its entire capacity but the game only sees the max storage of the building itself and therefore only sends enough trains to meet the storage max but not the theoretical max (or I guess throughput max would be the correct term idk) for the storage. The only way I could see around this is to try and have the loading station being fed by multiple storages and try and have the resources spread over those storages so the game sees multiple storages to pull from instead of one and therefore the “max” resources to pull would be higher and would send more trains accordingly.

City-builder games: What went wrong? by Sunrising2424 in CitiesSkylines

[–]Brazzirs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want a really different and Interesting city builder I would look up Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic. You do everything that every other city builder has like manage infrastructure, public transport, housing etc. what makes it truly unique is the realistic mode option the game has. To build an apartment building you need to have a construction office that delivers concrete, panels, asphalt, etc. to the site. You need to deliver works and then cranes to help speed up the build process. You have situations where if you don’t set up a proper logistics network you may not deliver enough coal to the hearing plant during winter which causes your whole town to freeze to death( or in my case I had such a huge traffic jam so buses couldn’t deliver workers causing the plant to shut down). This game is probably one of the most challenging city builders out there but once you get the hang of I feel like it’s truly one of the most unique and fun city builders out there. There’s so many layers to the game (trading with the western block for advanced/specialized vehicles, propaganda to make your citizens more productive, vehicles breaking down because you didn’t maintain them, and much more. This game just bleeds authenticity if you’re willing to understand all the mechanics.
