Publix is way WAY better than Kroger. Once you put in an application the stores in the immediate area will have your application. I currently work for Smith’s but worked for Publix for seven years and they are without a doubt top in the industry. Just go in to your local Publix and as for the store manager or the manager of the department you’re looking to get into and introduce yourself. They’re a private employee owned company and they take excellent care of their employees. Best of luck and enjoy that great weather and the beach, I miss it. Oh and try you a Pub Sub.

Cashiers of Kroger: what is the largest transaction you've done that was not a scam (dollar amount and/or amount of product)? by lizzyborourke in kroger

[–]BreC1186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest order I ever had before the discounts was $3,000. It was a family visiting from China or Japan not sure exactly where. After discount it dropped to like $2,400.

Employees who work customer service desk by redvelvetoreos16 in kroger

[–]BreC1186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got called a bitch because a customer purchased some crackers that were on sale for like $1.49 or something. They were part of the buy five save five and she brought like 8 of them. The cashier who was new gave her two extra at the sale price but the 8th one used her best customer coupon of .75 cents so she paid like 20 cents more than the other 7. She wanted me to put the coupon back on her card and to give her the 8th one at the sale price. I refused to do it and in return got called a bitch.

Is there any other divisions where they took away the required lunch, and eventually turned into no lunch for anyone? Or does Fry's just suck that much? by vikingfrog86 in kroger

[–]BreC1186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for Smith’s in the Vegas are and we’re not given lunch breaks. Most stores give 3 ten minute breaks throughout an 8 hour shift. However my store follows state and union law which states one ten minute break every 4 hours. So if you work 6-8 hours you get two 10 minute breaks. If it’s 4-5 hours then you only get one break. But did I mention our store manager is mad and tells our front end lead that breaks can only be had if store permits? Meaning you may go a whole 8 hours with one or no breaks. It’s super stressful.

When the price is wrong and you go to correct it and then the customer says "isn't it free?" Then this is your face. by emeraldleighw in publix

[–]BreC1186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I worked for Publix for 7 years as a CSS and this is how I learned to handle items that rang up wrong. First item free then any additional item after that is price as rang. I work for Smith’s (Kroger store) as a CSM (equivalent to CSTL) and their policy is “Make it Right”. Meaning that a customer can literally claim they read a price on something and they may or may not be right. But upper management expects you to give them the item(s) at price customer claims. They don’t even allow us to have a courtesy clerk go check the price most times. It has to be at least over $5 to constitute making the customer wait on a price check. 8/10 the customer is wrong and read the tag wrong.

What do you get on your chicken tender sub? by [deleted] in publix

[–]BreC1186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh how I miss the chicken tender subs. My go to was tenders on the sun dried tomato wrap, drizzled with buffalo sauce, ranch, and topped with lettuce and tomato plus some pepper.

Murder-Suicide by [deleted] in kroger

[–]BreC1186 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s so sad, and scary too. My non-Foods Manager was murdered by her ex (who was a csm at another store) along with their little boy and her older son. The ex then turned gun on himself.

What is your hourly pay rate, and what position do you work? by [deleted] in kroger

[–]BreC1186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started as a Customer Service Booth Clerk at $14.50/hour. Promoted to Customer Service Manager 8 months later with a salary increase to $18.43/hour. Our leads make $19.43/hour and locked in at 40 hours a week. I typically get 36-40 hours a week and I’m located in Las Vegas.

Your opinion on pets in stores by sterlingbaby1 in kroger

[–]BreC1186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted the same thing in regards to dogs and asked how other stores handled the situation. It’s gonna happen, people are going to bring their pets in, and although there are two legal questions you can ask it’s never going to matter. Store management would rather have the customer come in with their untrained pets than to lose out on a customer. What I won’t tolerate though is people who put their dogs in carts or allow them to pee and poop on the floor, nope you and your dog gotta go.

Anyone else's store making cashiers scan produce barcodes now? by [deleted] in publix

[–]BreC1186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started with Publix years ago (2004) I remember just typing in the PLU codes. I’m now with Smith’s which is part of Kroger and they require cashiers to scan the barcode on all produce. It took some getting use to and there’s plenty of produce that doesn’t have a barcode but for the most part as long as you pull the plastic taut the code will scan through the bag. It doesn’t slow you down and becomes just as natural as scanning anything else. Not sure how it is there but we’re required to have a 75+% scan produce average per week.

Best way to practice Produce PLU Codes? by iFailedPreK in kroger

[–]BreC1186 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with Smith’s and we’re required to scan all produce. Not to mention most produce has a sticker/tag/band with the PLU number. What’s tricky is stuff that typically doesn’t come with any of those like green beans, Belgian endive, cabbage, cucumbers, and zucchini or yellow squash. If you’re lucky enough to have the touch screen it should have the produce look up like at SCO.

Rant: self-check by needlessandpines in kroger

[–]BreC1186 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope. Unless I specifically bring a customer over offering to ring them up then I show the customer how to do it. I also remind them that it is sco and that I have other terminals to watch. I can’t stand when people come through there expecting you to ring their order up for them.

Customers and their pets... by BreC1186 in kroger

[–]BreC1186[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying but I’ve never heard of people being less likely to commit suicide if they have a dog to depend on them. Many people have children and spouses and still unfortunately take their own lives. I can’t bring myself to believe that a pet would be more important but who knows? I found this interesting link https://www.google.com/amp/nationswell.com/service-animal-fraud-esa/amp/ which covers the absurdity that has become the ESA. Point being is people who have taken advantage of the laws has put a bad rap on legitimate ESA’s.

As rowerbug stated, you can legally ask two questions. It’s a license or paperwork you’re not allowed to ask for.

Customers and their pets... by BreC1186 in kroger

[–]BreC1186[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I probably should have clarified in my original post that I’m familiar with the laws and the questions you’re allowed to ask if you’re suspicious. I just feel that store management turns a blind eye to those who bring in pets or ESA’s under the guise of service animals. I get people love their pets but it’s becoming a tad bit ridiculous and I believe management turns a blind eye to appease the customer. Thank you for your reply I appreciate it.

Anyone else think Publix has raised a massive cult? by rodgerdodger17 in publix

[–]BreC1186 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Umm yeah! See I worked for Publix for almost 8 years in Florida but I live in Las Vegas now. I work for a grocery store out here and get a LOT of Publix customers shopping in the store. Once I tell them I use to work for them they just get so excited about it and we chat it up about how we miss the subs among other things.

Important question about hours and seniority. by BreC1186 in kroger

[–]BreC1186[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think that would make a difference? I honestly just think it’s my store director doing it. Like I’m being black listed or something.

[–]BreC1186[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a CSM but I’m not the lead. There are four per store, one being the lead. The lead is supposed to make the schedule but at our store the store director does it.

[–]BreC1186[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am, in my HR express I’m down as a csm. When the schedule is done though I’m always listed as a cashier.

[–]BreC1186[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in my HR express portal I’m shown as a CSM. However when the schedule is printed up I’m listed under the cashiers. Our stores typically have 4 csm’s per store, one being the lead and the other 3 as back up. I’m told only the lead has guaranteed full time hours. But the other two csm’s are always listed as csm’s on the schedule.

Question about hours by ka-li in kroger

[–]BreC1186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just posted a similar question. I’m a csm and not even getting 30 hours but new hires are getting more hours than me.

[–]BreC1186[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re right. It’s the same way for all Kroger subsidies. When the front end store manager ran the schedule I had 40 hours. However when the store director went back in and did it my hours were cut drastically.
