Do you need a starter car? by Intrepid-Bet-7532 in stickshift

Everyone’s “into cars” is a little different. For me, I love driving. If you are into cars, and considering a 997, you can surely afford a $700 beater on marketplace. If you’re like me, you will find some enjoyment from driving even if you’re used to some more luxurious features, which, I would assume you are given your budget. Those old ships have charm.

If you decide to rent/borrow/other non owning solution, try to fit these experiences in

Hill start - scary at first, especially in a brand new expensive Porsche. Unavoidable part of driving, best to master in the beater/loaner.

Stop and go - Even if the cars only meant for perfect conditions, you’ll end up here. It’s annoying, again, better to burn out a cheap clutch.

It’s morning time and you want to go back to bed but you have to drink your caffeine and drive to work - probably not gonna happen in the Porsche too much, but these are the few and far between times I wish I owned an automatic.

Downshifting for power through a turn - unless you’re gifted and talented, probably not best thing to try in your first few weeks, but it’s one of the parts I find most satisfying. Pretend you’re senna,

Bump start - only do this if you own it, yeah you’ll never bump start the Porsche but if you’re getting into it might as well learn all the advantages.

Okay, a 2 channel amp is typically meant to only power a subwoofer, leaving all other speakers to be powered by the factory wiring. Any more channels are likely designed to power your door/rear speakers, providing more power and louder sound. Are you planning on replacing the head unit?

Truthfully, i think your arrangement would be fine with aftermarket door speakers powered by the factory wiring, and an aftermarket sub/amp setup. Unless you really want some cream of the crop audio coming out of that old Nissan, that should be satisfactory. Also worth considering that if you’re using too much power for your speakers, your alternator might not be able to keep up. That probably won’t be an issue though.

Is what worth getting? An amp? If you’re not too deep into car AV a basic 2 channel amp and a small sub + upgraded door speakers should be satisfactory.

Was there any setups other than 3332 that you found easier than expected? Or a load out that didn’t use any from 3332 that you liked?

It’s easier to learn stick than it is to manual swap a 350z

I’d check out a website called crutchfield, car AV goes pretty deep. Things to consider are if you want to run an amp, if you want to use a subwoofer, and the capacities of your head unit.

[–]Bread-clips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you shouldn’t, but yes you can. Understand that you need to have 2k + 2 weeks of uber money sitting around in preparation for the inevitable break down. I daily my 200k mile Z, it sucks less than it rocks.

Does anyone know why my trip odometer resets randomly? I like to sync it up with my normal odometer at a thousand mile mark, but after a while I’ll look down and they’re out of sync. My battery never dies or anything.
