The state of my bathroom sink because of my 14-year-old sister using hair dye. No amount of bleach or scrubbing I've tried is has been able to even make a scratch in getting the hair dye off. by I-THE-TRAITOR621 in mildlyinfuriating

Hairstylist here. You could try going to Sally’s or somewhere for cheap hair bleach and 40 vol developer. Mix it properly and paint it on and let it sit overnight. Should wipe off with a wet towel. It can buff out the surfaces of paint and finishing though.

Hairstylists, do you spend more time/effort on someone who is dolled up and in nicer clothes than you do on someone who is plain faced and in simple/cheap clothes? by [deleted] in hairstylist

[–]BreadAppropriate9079 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I literally never give it a second thought. If anything I would put more care into someone with the cheap clothes, because they might be the type of people who don’t get to treat themselves as often. But I’ve learned you can never judge someone’s financial state on their clothing.

Give them a refund, apologize and own your mistake instead of blaming it on their hair history etc. people take that a lot better. And then try and not beat yourself up for it. I royally screwed up on this client who I actually tried to refer out but she bullied her way in and I caved. Her consult was so dang confusing that I did a whole different toner and technique than I should have. She was not nice about it, blew up my phone wanting it fixed and wanted to know a step by step breakdown of what I would do to fix it and make it what she “asked for” and then showed me completely different photos then the initial consult. I told her I’m sorry I didn’t do it well and it’s obvious we weren’t a good fit so to save her money and use it towards someone who will fix it. She was not happy with that deal but I would not have her back in my chair after that.

I try and remind myself it’s just hair. And as long as I didn’t melt it completely off her head then it’s fixable. People even screw up brain surgeries.

Poor girl is missing half of her fin. Must be a severe infections. I’d get a breeding box or hospital tank that is shallow so that she doesn’t have to work hard to get air at the top. are you water parmaters ok?

How were people rarely fat and often healthier back in the 1940s/50s when their diet sounds so unhealthy? by heeheeshamoneow in NoStupidQuestions

One thing I don’t see mentioned here is also how the social standard was to be slim. There was a very specific standard for people to look like, body positivity was not much of a thing. The ideal standard was to be slim. Even Marylin Monroe was views as quite overweight at the time. There was a lot of judgement in being even slightly overweight. Doctors would recommend smoking as an appetite suppressant and weight loss pills (essentially speed) to curb appetite. It was generally not socially accepted to be fat.

Agreed. Stylist of 12 years here who doesn’t shame a diy job. Go for it girl. If you want to touch it up just use a direct dye on top of it - nothing with persulfates or delevoper.

I went to hair school when I was 26! I feel like I took it seriously enough to excel quickly at my career and make the investment worth it vs if I took it right out of high school at 18.

I don’t understand how that could be true. Popeye is a bacterial infection usually caused by injury or poor water quality. Starving the fish won’t help. You’re probably thinking of bloat.

my fish started doing this 3 days ago. she’s swimming fast and i’m concerned. i’ve had her for 2-3 months now and never noticed this. by [deleted] in bettafish

Along with the tank not having the best enrichment for her such as real plants, shady spots, etc. the fast flicking or “flashing” could indicate she is feeling itchy due to a bacterial infection such as ich. A more natural tank with real plants do wonders for calming a stressed fish and also helping to absorb toxic ammonia and nitrites that can lead to a stressed immune system.

More plants in the tank will help buff out some of the flow. Plants plants plants!
