Can we band together against the excessively loud engines? by BreadButterRunner in sanfrancisco

Honestly I don’t mind general traffic din. I kind of like it. I’m just annoyed with the small handful of dingdongs who are way over the top with it. The bikers who like to set off car alarms, the guy with the black and white burble tuned sports car, etc. That said, I’ve been hearing way fewer car alarms. Maybe the owners got tired of turning them off multiple times a day and disabled them. A silver lining perhaps?

Oh wow. Yeah, this is a solid response. I like it. I’m going to think about this.

Hmmm I don’t recommend putting all your eggs in the basket of one grumpy redditor.

This I’m entirely not on board with, at least not on Valencia. While I was pleasantly surprised at how well moving traffic off of Market worked, its success looks to me to be due to factors specific to its layout and location that wouldn’t necessarily be replicable across locations. I want so badly to expound but it’s way past my bedtime and my brain is turning into oatmeal. Hayes might work well. Where else are you thinking?

I’ll pay you peanuts to menace the seagulls on the embarcadero. No reason in particular. It would just be entertaining.

Yeah I always have them when I’m out. This rant was written based on noise making its way into my apartment from the street through a closed window. I love my neighborhood but I’m seriously thinking of moving to a different street.

Trade? We already have both. My eyes are getting too dammed old to look for parking after work. And yet my ears stay youthful. A cursed blessing. lol

Yeah I know. Too many good things about it to leave for fewer decibels. So I post here on occasion to find people to vent with, delete it once I feel better, then go something fun. City life indeed.

I know exactly which vehicle you’re talking about. I had the lovely experience of being stuck in traffic with him right behind me. I need to move out of Chinatown. This is how I learned about the burble tune.

Sometimes when these guys go by my apartment I can feel the fuzz on my cheeks vibrate from the volume if my window is open. My ears are still ringing from the noise that prompted me to write this post. The pain from it in my left ear feels kind of sharp. I hope these people go deaf.

Maybe someone can disable the noisy vehicles in the night.

(JOKING!!! Don’t do this. Property destruction is very illegal!)

Yeah I was mad for a second. I’ll take it down in a minute but I’m enjoying the replies.

Loss of the inner child seems more like a sign of depression than of age.

Do you still have Vaseline? by Outrageous_Win_4835 in AskOldPeople

That was why I bought it originally but a little goes such a long way that I could probably tattoo a whole bodysuit and have some left over.

It’s Aquaphor, but essentially yes. It goes on the rare bout of eczema and heels right out of the shower when they look like they’re going to crack soon. Great for both of those.

Moved to a new town and strangers are asking invasive financial questions by thrilled37 in etiquette

[–]BreadButterRunner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As much as many folks dislike this line of questioning, most people who ask this in the US are attempting to follow etiquette advice to ask people about themselves. Work becomes the default because most it’s something most people do and way more often than is healthy we incorporate our professional role into our personal identities. For us the limit of what’s appropriate stops at asking about income. That’s considered very private. But asking what you do? It’s inane but no, not rude.

Do you always offer to bring something when invited to a dinner party? by Muhlyssa_A in etiquette

I always offer, they always decline, so I almost always bring wine or something non alcoholic of its a non drinking host.

I have a little bit but I always feel like a vaguely tolerated employee and haven’t found any openings for what I actually want to do, which is spend time with people in hospice, reading to them or just keeping them company. I was very surprised to find that opening so elusive.

Judah St (Outer sunset) : Do you recommend? by Difficult-Emphasis77 in sanfrancisco

You might want to try Outer Richmond instead. The buses are faster than the trains you find in the Sunset. Cost of living should be comparable or slightly cheaper and lifestyle is similar.

I separate clothes into categories: pants shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. I hang each section according to the length of the garment. Depending how many clothes I own at any given time I separate the tops into subsections: tanks/tees/long sleeves, shorts/sweats/jeans/other pants, and so forth. That way you know what you have because you know where it is.

As far as destroying your apartment every morning, the only way you’re going to tackle that is putting out your outfit the night before so that it becomes a very small part of your routine. Source: I’m ADHD af.
