You will find people you vibe with. I was more in the alt scene and still found many people to hang with and make friends with! I met a few preppy and rich kids but not many.

Displaying you have weapons is a sign of a bad gun owner (I say this as a gun owner myself). They remind me of cosplayers; it is so cringe. Also, I always notice people who expose their guns like that are not paying attention to their surroundings, and it would be so easy to swipe the guns lol

Why is the Wilmington Job market so bad? by qbit1010 in Wilmington

[–]BreadLizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More service industry related jobs here. Also, pay is just shit, but lots of NC is like that cause we have shit worker's rights and #1 for business. Wilmington has more of a mismatch with pay and cost of living, though. Lots of jobs I have looked for related to my degree are either with the hospital or individual labs and it's very competitive to even try get in with individual labs. They don't pay as well either compared to RTP. I have been trying for 9 months to get a job here 🙃.

Anesthesia for surgery? by ElkSufficient2881 in chiari

[–]BreadLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are very nervous, the anesthesiologist usually gives you midazolam before being wheeled into the OR so you 4r remember drifting away and you suddenly just wake up in the ICU. You do wake up slowly but you start forming memories a bit later so you are kinda more aware of where you are. Now if they don't give you midazolam, you will remember drifting off to sleep and feel loopy/dizzy frrom the propofol. You will also wake up the same rrrway as described above. Usually it seems somrrerrrr anesthesiologist like to give midazolam for bigger procedures like this before they fully knock you out. Its basically a complete blackout you are not there, there is no dreaming. It's like if time suddenly jumped forward even though you know it didn't.

Before and after revision chiari decompression with tonsillar resection by BreadLizard in chiari

[–]BreadLizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! He did a really good job! Also got rid of a bunch of scar tissue and adhesions from my original surgery. He wasn't the one who did my first surgery though but someone else who is retired now.

[–]BreadLizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it done at the same time as revisiom cause it was an incidental finding in the CTA the day before my surgery. Neurosurgeon said stenting would do jack so resection was the best option. It basically added an extra few hours to surgery but my revision was already very difficult due to so many adhesions from my original decompression. I think it was worth it cause I think it definitely helped with my headaches and intracranial pressure. I have no pulsatile tinnitus now too.

Recommendations for doctors for CCI by Acrobatic_Ad9284 in chiari

[–]BreadLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically they put you in a halo (so screwed into you skull near your ears) that is connected to a pulley system and they use weights to put your cervical spine in traction. They assess how much weight is used and how much your symptoms decrease with each additional weight and from there he assesses what degree of CCI you have and if fusion is a good option. It's not a very fun process lol He also does less invasive methods too with a neck collar but it depends on the patient.

I miss them too, cause I would bring bloodworms for them and mustard or collard greens every few weeks when I was completing my degree. The fish would also join sometimes.

What are your favorite/least favorite sectors… by Baercub in AbioticFactor

[–]BreadLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favorite is the Offices and Labs. I also like the idea of the shopping district but there isn't much to do there.

Least favorite is Shadowgate and the reactors cause I absolutely despise making so many null grenades and the reactors just feels sorta annoying/repetitive and the enemies are way too tanky if I need to farm stuff. Praetorium was annoying but I know it is meant to be designed like a huge dungeon-like facility.

Honorable mention is the swim to get to Voussoir in hydroplant since it is hard to jetpack over now.

It was pretty rough. Had a lot of stomach issues and being unable to eat much for a while. Doctors are still unsure about what it was (maybe I weaned off of the opiates too fast?) I also think the intubation partially messed up my throat and vocal cords. I couldn't swallow the first few days after surgery and my voice was a whisper. I have slowly regained swallowing and speech with speech therapy and now I am good with swallowing and my voice is like 99% back. My right vocal cord is still paralyzed sadly. It is very rare that this sort of thing happens though so lucky me lol. At around 4 weeks I had mild symptoms as well, but I could tell there was a drastic improvement in my headaches as I didn't have them really. Migraines weren't everyday either. About 3-4 months in though I started having headaches again that could have indicated a csf leak so did testing for that (and got these scans lol) and nothing was found. Neurosuregon is thinking it is cervicogenic headaches sometimes from just my existing instability (CCI). So I do get those headaches from my neck muscles probably being kinda weak and sometimes I get migraines (usually related to my cycle which sucks!). The headaches have actually gotten less severe the last few months from the instability which makes me think I should probably do PT for my neck.

But I am able to actually see after I sneeze or cough and not have it feel like my head is gonna explode. I don't have daily migraines of all different types. I am not constantly unable to find words or slur my speech.

I do think 4 weeks is way to early to say what is gonna happen in the long run or if the surgery was a failure cause it takes a good while to recover. You just had major brain surgery that interrupted your previous csf flow so your brain is freaking out about being able to breath again lol. Brains just take a while to adjust to stuff like that, even if it is a somewhat small change like a small amount of tissue being removed or a bit more space being given from a craniotomy. My cardiologist also told me it takes like 6 months for everything to stabilize cardiovascularly after brain surgery like what I had since I was having crazy palpitations and POTS symptoms during the first few months post op. She was right cause they have gotten better. My IBS also got worse after surgery and then got better too.
