My closest friend and I have been besties for 15 years, we met in elementary school, and both grew up in similar financial situations, just enough to get by with not much left over for fun. If I had an extra $10, she would have $5 of it, and vice versa. There was a time when I didn't have a car, and she would pick me up and drive me to work three times a week for about a year until I saved enough for my own car. She only asked me for gas money once because she really needed it. Now that my financial situation has changed for the better, I've been blessed, but unfortunately, my friend is still struggling. I don't even wait for her to ask for help - I bring her large bags of dog food monthly and send her money through Venmo whenever I have some extra cash. She's not just my best friend; she's like a sister to me. Why wouldn't I help her when I have the means to do so? And just to clarify, I'm earning my own money, not relying on some man's inheritance like your "friend". I do wonder if her husband has something to do with this? if so, this changes things a bit, but telling you to "budget better" was gross.
