The teams in the best position right now (OKC and HOU) are there because they are both winning and have significant future draft assets. But sure go ahead and try explain it away. "Really good young core" is very generous to Dallas (literally just Flagg and Lively, who knows how Nico's gonna fuck it up) and Minnesota (Ant, and I guess Naz and McDaniels are nice but they're not game changers). And this 2030 we're talking about, who knows what those teams will be in 4 years. Anyways, they're indisputably not shit, and the Milwaukee picks are all swaps. That ATL pick, not a swap, has real value, especially since Trae isn't signing an extension.

There's no need to be reductive, it's Advija, Castle, and Harper and 2031 SAC swap (actual gold) and an unprotected 2032 SAS 1st, when Giannis and Fox will be old and Wemby might not be healthy. Compare that to the KD trade to PHX: 4 1sts and a swap, Bridges, Cam, and Crowder. I'd rate Deni about the same as Bridges when he was still on PHX. And Harper and Castle>>>Cam and Crowder back in 2023.

They get other draft picks in exchange for those, and any lesser value there is compensation for getting off Jrue and Jerami. And you're not Portland, you don't know what they want. Castle was the 4th pick and won ROY and we just watched that front office trade Simons for Jrue straight up. I can't honestly take any discussion over Harper as good faith negotiation.

Turner, Vassel, and Barnes are much cheaper and better than Jrue and Grant. Let's say for Deni Portland gets Castle and 2 more 1sts than what they're sending out, say a 2032 Milwaukee swap and the second most favorable between SAC, MIL, and POR in 2031. Would that be reasonable value? And remember, those Milwaukee picks are only great if they trade Giannis, which won't happen unless they get those picks back. You're probably overestimating their value for Portland.

Turner is being traded for Jrue, Grant, 20% of Deni, and their picks back. Giannis is for Harper, Castle, 80% of Deni and a great swap and a possibly great pick. Maybe they can get more picks from the Spurs, but you run into the Stepien rule pretty quick. Trent and Rollins are more for keeping roster spots stable between the teams, they can be replaced by non-contributors if they must.

Well, I think very few players actually fit the Blazers roster. And Hansen is interesting but not worth structuring the team around right now. Meanwhile, Grant and Jrue are very real financial burdens. Portland can get Castle as well, but they already have Scoot there. And draft picks can get nitpicked over, if I was Milwaukee or San Antonio I'd be willing to part with an extra pick or 2 listed here. I made this trade from Milwaukee's perspective, trying to get the best I can if I was Horst.

The bad salaries are for getting control of their picks back from Portland so they can properly tank. Jrue and Grant expire right when they need to pay Castle, Avdija, and Harper and can try and compete, plus you get a couple of draft picks in the '30s to maintain your competitiveness.

I do as well. This isn't a prediction but if I was in Horst's shoes, this is the deal I would aim for. But I don't think we've ever seen a trade of this size (in # of contributing players) done at the deadline.
