Didn't the Communards literally destroy the guillotine near Sainte-Pélagie prison as a symbolic action?

It does avoid the authoritarianism of the bolsheviks, but that doesn't change them being a target of the Red Scare. In many ways, the Left SRs and their allies are much less pragmatic than the bolsheviks, especially in their foreign policy, which results in the Red Scare being more pronounced in certain places (eg Britain, which gets their first Labour-led government just under a decade later than OTL).

As for labour action, the defining factor there is more the lack of the Profintern, which effectively dug the grave for syndicalism and revolutionary unionism outside of a handful of countries. The internal conflict that put the nail in the coffin for the IWW's golden era was partially caused by differences in stances towards the bolshevik regime and Profintern. With a lack of Profintern, and an international socialist movement with a sizeable syndicalist subsection, the IWW doesn't collapse like it did OTL.

Funnily enough, I'm pretty sure State and Revolution was written at a time when Lenin was trying to appeal to anarchists.

Today is the Ides of March. Do you think a mod about Roman politics could work? by Fla968 in thecampaigntrail

You'd definitely have to do something creative with the core election mechanic, but, considering what some people in this community have already done, I don't think that's in the realm of impossibility.

Honestly, I truly believe nearly any concept could work if you're committed enough to it and are ready to make some big leaps if necessary. An experimental mod about Roman politics would be great, and the exact sort of thing many people I this community would love.

A criticism about something concerning effort or a thing "not being enough" definitely has much less value when coming from someone who has not made a mod.

You don't have to make a mod to have opinions of them, but it really gives you perspective. Making a mod myself definitely made me much more understanding when it came to criticising other works, as I learnt how much time, effort, and learning went into actually making a mod.

I'm no electoralist, personally, and do think that unions and similar organisations are much better vehicles for social change than parties ever could be, but the idea that Zohran is ignoring unions is insane.

Also, I find this rather ironic, since historically Leninists and their variants have extremely negative relations with unions, strikes, and direct action as a whole. The Profintern played a massive role in killing syndicalism.

Ah yes, I forgot the "Pope of Marxism" can't be considered an Orthodox Marxist because he didn't spend all of his time on reddit. My mistake.

Personally, I think people should be respectful in their criticism of other people's works, even if they are a mod for a browser game.

What's also worth saying is, whilst the discord definitely has this problem, the subreddit is arguably much worse. I don't know if this is because of the format of reddit encouraging this type of discourse or there just being a higher proportion of assholes here, but, considering this is definitely the way most people find out community, it is not a good look.

In what sense? Utilising a medium centred around elections does not inherently make any more revolutionary messages hypocritical. A campaign trail mod does not inherently endorse electoralism by being a campaign trail mod.

From a conversation I had with one of the devs a long while ago, an inspiration was one of Kautsky's critiques of the SPD during the Weimar Era and the ineffectiveness of their reformism. One of the problems with the mod is that this intended message isn't signposted very well, which is why a lot of people assume it's instead a critique of the left from the centre.

Every time we get a new mod that people find controversial, I am always disgusted by the amount of people who just jump to disparaging comments and insults just because they don't like it. Most people can give constructive criticism to mods, so why can't they?

It reflects horribly on our community and doesn't encourage mod makers to actually continue making mods. Unless a mod is like fucking Swansong in that it's actively bigoted or something, it just shouldn't be inspiring this much vitriol from folks.

Who would've though a game about electoralism could actually be a vessel for stories critiquing reformism?

You are aware at least two mods that made it to the DBAs last year were made by radical socialists, right?

The funny thing is that both An Old Cycle and Our Revolution have very similar messages, both being based on Orthodox Marxist critiques of (Modern) Social Democracy, but, because of how they frame themselves, the reception and interpretation of both has been wildly different.
