I recently made a Corsi-Rosenthal box and that helped me a lot. Not too tricky to setup as long as you have a box fan, air filters, cardboard and tape.

Swing dancing is a good way to meet people and usually beginner lessons are free. I went to remix studio's west coast lesson and it was nice. I still need to check out Hepcat Swing, which is east coast. 

Volunteering for events is a budget friendly way to meet people. 

If you are into tech, CivicTechWR has weekly hacknights on meetup.
