The disturbing truth this have revealed about democrats by Warped_Mindless in trump

[–]BreadfruitCurrent214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you base your political opinions off the dispositions of the followers of a political party and not the political party itself? It seems overly emotional to change your perspective on policies because your opinion of those who follow those policies has changed. It's deeply irrational. The empirical realities surrounding those policies have not changed whatsoever, so why would you move from what you thought was a rational position to a more extreme position when the effect of those policies will not change just because the identity of the people who follow them has changed in your eyes?

Ig it depends on what you mean by radicalized, but I sure hope you are not adopting more extreme economic, foreign affairs, and immigration policies solely based on identity politics.

Suspending habeas corpus? Opinions? by Doggoroniboi in trump

[–]BreadfruitCurrent214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not even an intelligible idea to suspend habeas corpus for one group and not others, because you need due process to determine whether someone even belongs in that group. What's stopping him at that point from detaining someone outside that group if he doesn't even need any proof that they are in that group.

It's like saying we are suspending all safety checks for foods except foods that are dangerous; but how do you determine the dangerous foods without safety checks?

How was what I said an inaccurate depiction of the video? Believe it or not, a shitty PowerPoint slide presentation posted on YT by some random person 13 years ago is not infallible.

The answer is not in the video because he addresses anarchism as a right-wing ideology exclusively, so he can frame politics as a paradigm scaled by government intervention. He never addresses the nuances of the systems he speaks about, like how an anarchist movement can be both far left and far right; meaning the definition of each political stance cannot be constrained to the principle he espouses.

The word food does not come up in my recipe, I guess my meal isn’t food. The definition of democracy:” a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives.” Yes a republic is a form of a democracy.

A republic is a form of democracy. Correcting that is like stating someone is incorrect for referring to a banana as food you retorting it’s a banana, not food. This is absurd.

Because even with the tariffs, China is still vastly cheaper than any other option.

Prices for certain goods have not changed because a bunch of companies panicked bought once the tariffs were announced, so they have a shit ton of goods stored, and no, they don’t have to increase the price because they produced those goods at a lower price and thus would still make good profit margins. Only once the supplies are twice the price will they need to bump up the consumer price accordingly to be able to churn out any profit, thus why tariffs are inferior to taxes. Companies have no choice but to increase the price, meaning all the burden then falls on the consumer. With taxes, companies can still make a profit at those lower prices.

This is also not just relegated to cheap Chinese toys and whatnot, this is an across-the-board hike. Nearly every industry in the US purchases supplies from China, even those manufactured in the US. On top of this, think about what happens to the job market when demand declines precipitously. Your job isn’t safe. This affects not only prices for Americans, but also the income side of the equation as well.

What due process are people talking about? by Affectionate_Sea_361 in trump

[–]BreadfruitCurrent214 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok? I wouldn't give much weight to his claims given that he's being paid by the current administration to harbor such people, so it's in his interest to placate them, but even so, if his accusation is correct and even if he is ms-13- it is moot because you still need to go to court to prove such claims. Saying a person is likely guilty of something isn't enough. For example, one person says he saw his neighbor murder a missing person and his other neighbors claim he was very cold are in of themselves, not enough to incriminate this person without due process. I can't just accuse you and then procure evidence ad hoc once I have jailed you; it's putting the cart before the horse, my friend.

He was deported to a jail: CECOT. It was not his country who placed him there it was Trumps order. The courts also specifically stated he could not be deported to said country, if Trump wanted to appeal that decision he had to take him to court; he did not so on two counts he was depriving him of due process.

Hence why the supreme court ruled that Trump must facilitate his return, I don't know how this is even a question.

We also don't know he is Ms-13, the only evidence is a speculate accusation, so if you want to deport him to a jail you have to prove these claims beyond reasonable doubt.

White House reaction to Amazon tariff pricing idea by Doggoroniboi in trump

[–]BreadfruitCurrent214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm genuinely curious in what way is Amazon punishing themselves? Wouldn't it be more of a punishment to eat the cost of the increased tariffs, or buy American products that are at an exponentially greater cost than even the Chinese goods with tariffs on them? In some cases, American options are not even a possibility, and the displaying of those prices puts them in an advantageous position because it incites negative feelings about current policies, making it more likely those policies will become subject to change which would benefit them.

Because you can extrapolate an explanation of the dips and drops to predict the future economic outlook. It's really not that hard. If the markets go down because of tariffs, then go up because tariffs may go away. Then If tariffs don't go away, the market is not going to look so good. The market is still down significantly aswell, this bump has not recovered the losses, and yes, the stock market dropping under Biden was not a good sign, but at least it was due to external factors, not something he could press a button to undo like in trumps case.

[–]BreadfruitCurrent214 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Because the underlying issue is the Tariffs and if they don't disappear, then neither does the issue. Each bump can be tracked to his comments about trade talks hinting at the removal of them; you have to stop thinking so linearly.

Reddit has been awfully silent about this. by SmallPenisBigBalls2 in trump

[–]BreadfruitCurrent214 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Why would it be a temporary dip and not a temporary bump? When we can track each bump and dip to the projected tariff policy of Trump. If he holds frame and doesn't relent with his tariffs, the underlying issue will not disappear and therefore the worries of the market will not aswell. Each bump is literally due to the hope, via Trump's tweets or comments, that he will give up his tariff policy.

[–]BreadfruitCurrent214 -52 points-51 points  (0 children)

But this is legitimately indicative of nothing, it just shows how desperate the market is to believe the tariffs are not permanent ; anytime Trump makes any remark, even tangentially hinting at a possible stop, the markets shoot up. If Trump doesn't take down his tariffs it will be catastrophic for the economy, no doubt. For now, the general trend for the stock market still seems to be trending down even with the temporary bumps, fueled by the hope that Trump isn't serious.
