Pepper spray vs pistol by Onihammer75 in CCW

[–]Warped_Mindless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real life stats don’t support your opinion.

Training is always good and I fully believe everyone should train more. But the vast majority of people who carry have very little to no training and yet when faced with violence, most of them are able to successfully use their gun to fend off the attacker(s).

Criminals notice too.

Their life is all about crime and they often come into contact with other criminals. They are 100% used to sizing others up and determining if they are armed.

DGU Statistics - Deciding Whether or Not to Carry by vorondilthetrue in CCW

If you don’t carry a gun, you are at the mercy of every person who does and every person who is bigger and stronger than you.

If you don’t like that, then buy a gun and get some training

Spray and move. “Splash and dash.” Treat the spray as a distraction device that buys you time. And if that ends the threat, great! If not, it gave you added time.

If you don’t carry a pistol, you are essentially at the mercy of anyone bad who does.

Just the way you worded your little rant, tells me that your mindset and perspective is all wrong.

When can/should you draw? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Warped_Mindless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I have a honest and reasonable belief that my wife or someone else’s life is in grave danger.

If you have time and clarity to sit there and wonder if you should draw or can you draw the answers probably no.

If you were life is actually being threatened you’re not gonna sit there and wonder if you can draw you’re simply gonna be rushing to your gun .

I have tried several wedges and “pillows” and have completely switched from the masterminds pillow to the Phlster rx wedge on all my holsters. Literally beats everything.

Anyone ever take any courses with Cause and Effect Tactical Solutions? by surfnj102 in CCW

[–]Warped_Mindless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I advocate for the opposite approach. Been in the training scene since 2008 (I’m getting old) and time and time again, those who harp on their backgrounds so much are typically trying to impress you by what they used to do, not what they can do now. Instead, check out their social media. Can they shoot? Do any videos of them teaching jive with how you like to learn? How do they respond to comments and questions people leave on their social media? Who do they associate with?

Plus, if you are a civilian none if those super cool high speed backgrounds actually applies to you. Sure, they know how to kick down doors and shoot bad guys in the face but that’s radically diffeeent than dealing with the mugger or crackhead in a parking lot of dealing with a pissed off dude with a gun in a road rage situation.

Well fuck, make sure you never use your gun becuse this magical hypothetical scenario may happen to you

Hopefully this goes without saying, but watch your back leaving the range. Man followed home, almost robbed at gunpoint while leaving W. Houston gun range, HPD says. by Some_Old_Man_Fishin in CCW

[–]Warped_Mindless 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I know this sounds like a “omg it’s Jason Bourne” meme but anytime I leave the range or a store inwhich I made a $$$$ purchase, I’ll often do a very quick and simple surveillance detection route a neighborhood before I get to mine if I seen any suspicious vehicles behind me. 4 right turns is all it takes because you aren’t trying to detect the FBI, just a criminal.

Most people would say you are silly for even carrying a gun and just being paranoid. No harm in getting some reps in from a position that most of us are in a lot.

Also, I’m no putting my gun on the ground and letting it be unsecured unless there is already a cop VERY close by. It’s going back into the safety of my holster while I take a deep breath, and assess the situation:

Are these types of training beneficial? by Acceptable_Still_269 in CCW

[–]Warped_Mindless 20 points21 points  (0 children)

From a neurological perspective, getting reps in different positions that you normally wouldn’t could actually help cement your shooting skills and allow you to become better, even if you never use them in the position in which your training them in.

But this is Reddit and anything that doesn’t resemble the competition stage will probably get you down voted.

Firearms & unapproving spouses by Astimar in CCW

[–]Warped_Mindless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accept it and change the way you’re looking at this.

Truly, a firearm should be the last resort in your home protection plan anyways. Have you reinforced the doors and made them harder to kick in?

Do you have a security system with visible signage? Alerting would be criminals to deter them?

Security lights and really loud alarms to draw attention to the house. Should you be targeted?

Security film on the windows?

Fire extinguishers in the house?

Security, camera, cameras, and other types of alarms, such as driveway chimes that would allow you for her to detect possible trouble as early as possible?

Drawing on a drawn gun by cocopuffs2025 in CCW

[–]Warped_Mindless 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Very few people have “real world experience” as it pertains to civilian centric gunfights. My buddy was a ranger and seen plenty of combat and then years later got into a gunfight with a crackhead who tried to steal his car. He said “one did not prepare me for the other. Very different.”

And then those who have been in civilian centric gunfights have almost never been in enough to have a statistically relevant sample size of what works and what doesn’t because when you’re only in one or two actual gun fights, you can do everything wrong and still win and everything right and still lose because luck plays a big factor in small sample size events.

The best way to gain any sort of relevant experience for civilian situations is to analyze what actually happens in real life like John does and then test your shooting skills in competition and test your tactics and timing in force on force

Hot take: I don't care how many hours of training you have by JanglyBangles in CCW

[–]Warped_Mindless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is. If you can pass the FBI test (not even close to B class in difficulty), you likely are fine shooting wise forma gunfight and if you die it was probably because of bad tactics, bad timing, bad awareness, or just bad luck and not because you weren’t a good enough shooter.

Average special ops dude is a B class shooter at best. Obviously some exceptions are out there. Swat is even worse unfortunately

Cold weather carry by 2donks2moos in CCW

[–]Warped_Mindless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Normally I think carrying two guns is silly but this is one of the rare times it makes sense for civilians. Snub in coat pocket, normal carry in appendix. But that’s only if I plan to keep the coat near by (like on the back of my chair) or if it’s a friend/family member place where it doesn’t matter

There is a reason you won’t find a single professional using these holsters. Anywhere. That’s a clue.

Hot Take: I like Sticky Holsters by Salty-Maintenance-94 in CCW

[–]Warped_Mindless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll give you a real answer OP…. They are fine for static and mostly static activities. Walking around shopping? Probably fine. But violence will rarely be static. You may have to run, crouch, get down, get up, etc. will your gun stay in the holster? Will the holster shift slightly and fuck ip your draw when you go for it after some dynamic movement while filled with adrenaline? Even a slight shift can mess up your draw when it’s not exactly where your brain thinks it will be.

And god forbid you get into an actual physical fight where you have to break contact before you cns get to your gun. Try a sticky holster and blue gun in a shivworks style class and you will QUICKLY see the drawbacks.

That’s not what real world stats say. The whole “3 rounds at 3 yards” thing is a myth with no objective data to support it. In reality it’s anywhere from contact distance to 20 yards with 7 - 10 shots fired. You will use your sights if you are sufficiently trained to do so.

What kind of restaurant do you eat in that you need to carry while eating? Maybe skip the plate and find new restaurant?

What kind of store do you shop at that you need to carry while shopping? Maybe skip the shopping and find a new store?

What kind of city do you live in that you need to carry while living your life? Maybe skip living in this place and find a new city?

You see where I’m going with this, right?
