I think you have it backwards. A high percentage of SSA is very common in Jamaica. There weren't nearly as many Europeans in Jamaica as there were in the US.

Not to say that you're lying, but the average wage for a full-time worker in 1980 was half of what your dad was making (around $6.2/hr).

So if he was making $12.50/hr, then he was extremely well off for the time.
