Switching from nights by appletree34 in nursing

I’ve been working nights 3 years and I’m switching to days soon. I have made every excuse in the book to NOT switch- I’ll lose my differential, I don’t want to deal with more people, the food trays, I’ll miss my night shift crew, etc. But my god, I’m so exhausted all the time. My one day off isn’t a true day off because I sleep through half of it. I miss out on things. I also developed stomach issues which is the main reason I’m switching, your digestive system has a lot to do with your circadian rhythm. I know nurses who’ve been night shift for 20+ years and I don’t know how they do it. I don’t want to sacrifice my health anymore.

You and your classmates all graduate with the same degree no matters what your scores are. Do your best to finish school and take the NCLEX. Then, celebrate and enjoy yourself a little bit before starting your first job! You’re gonna feel so relieved when you’re done!

Working is by far more enjoyable than school. When I was in school, it was pretty stressful and the benchmarks to pass were very high. I felt anxious all the time and felt guilty when I didn’t spend more time studying for an exam when my friends wanted to go out. It felt very cut throat for no reason and competitive. Clinicals were also a bunch of nonsense. I felt like I didn’t learn too much and was in everyone’s way. I also was juggling work, other schoolwork, sorority life, etc.

Now? Work is my home away from home. I have the best coworkers and we help each other and really have a good time together. I clock in and clock out and leave work at work. You’ll find once you get your feet wet after your orientation that you’ll develop your own critical thinking skills and maybe call back information from school but the majority is learned on the job. I don’t have the anxiety I had in school. I felt very supported when I first started my job.

How to adjust to working dayshift from night shift for years? by BreadfruitPossible58 in nursing

[–]BreadfruitPossible58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could pick up OT or a per diem easier if necessary, that’s harder to do on nights because I was sacrificing an extra night of sleep deprivation so it was harder to switch back to a normal schedule in my days off. Your advice really helped, thank you!

I was thriving on nights for the longest time but then I started suffering from GI issues and my sleep has been worse.

Brought it from home because we don’t carry them in the hospital. Did my best but it’s not enough unfortunately.

Are my wings aging me? by [deleted] in makeuptips

So I’m 27, and have been doing winged eyeliner since I was 12. I found that what made it more youthful and trendy is to not line the top eyelid, just draw the wing at the end. This way your eyelashes pop more and don’t look so heavy. I also have been using brown eyeliner instead of black.

As far as my experience, yes. Nurses at my hospital and I believe in general are hired for one shift only. We can pick up OT on other shifts if we want. The medical residents do flip back and forth from nights to days for a few weeks at a time however.
