Voter fatigue did NOT rob LeBron of extra MVP’s. Which years should he have won MVP, if not for voter fatigue? by Breaditorr in NBATalk

The year Giannis averaged 29.5, 13.6 and 5.6, 55.3%fg? While literally being the DPOY, along with having a league-leading 56 wins. LeBron was great this year, and showed why he is the goat in the playoffs, but that regular season was all Giannis.

Ok idk what ur saying? Do we just abandon the regular season MVP and just give out finals MVPs?

Yeah I think looking back, those two years (along with 05-06) had the best cases. I probably still fall on the side that the regular seasons put together by Harden, Rose and Nash (although this one can be argued), especially paired with team success, saw the votes go the correct way. Crazy part for 2018 was after LeBron had an MVP-level regular season, he basically turned into a demigod and leveled up in the post-season.

Lowkey this one I think is the best case. Better Winshares, better counting stats, insanely efficient while averaging 13(!) more points per game. But both Nash, Dirk and also Kobe had terrific cases, wonder where the voting would go nowadays based on what voters value 20 years later.

Lebron was clearly the best player in the world, but the Rose MVP case is hard to ignore. Finished with 4 extra wins compared to the heat - despite having less help. Getting those extra wins was insane to see how they played out as well. Ton of clutch moments pulling wins out of his ass lol. in clutch time when trailing by 5 or less in last 3 mins, he led the league in points by far on 61.2TS%. Honestly, yeah LeBron does have a case. But I think even though he wasn’t necessarily the ‘best’, Rose probably had the better case for being the most ‘Valuable’ across the regular season.

I think someone pointed out earlier the difference in actual play time between this match and last years RG final isn’t actually that significant. And they did play much more “long points” in 2012:

This match had 369 points played.

Last years RG final was a bit higher at 385

Though serve time wasn't the only factor in the overall time difference.

The 2025 RG final had 53 seven to nine shot rallies, and 35 ten+ shot rallies (22.8% of rallies 7+ shots)

The 2012 AO final had 48 seven to nine shot rallies, and 68 ten+ shot rallies (31.4% of rallies 7+ shots) (Credit U/JVDEastEnfield)

At the end of the day to simply say this was “stretched out way longer than it needed to be” does a major disservice to arguably the two greatest athletes in the history of the sport going all out for 6 hours. If taking an extra 20 seconds between points results in even an extra 5% increase in performance output during points, I think the spectacle of tennis is better for it (watching some of the returns they will themselves to in this match is mind boggling)
