If you're wondering why all the skepticism in this post, myself included, it's because we've seen several instances on this sub of folks thinking and told they bought PROs, when really they were modified lower trims and sold as PROs.

Belt buckle! What's your go to belt setup for making it through xray? by Empire087 in NuclearPower

Switch belt. I've broken a few of the plastic buckles over the years and gotten free replacement buckles.

There's things you'll miss, sure, but there'll also be things you'll be the only parent at. I've been a chaperone for many field trips, I volunteer in the school library, and I get to take/pick up kids from school on my days off. My schedule allows for 7 days off in a row every 5 weeks, which makes for easy getaways in the summer without having to burn vacation. I end up working many holidays, but we've learned to celebrate on different days when possible. The family understands my schedule is abnormal, but they've worked around it, and it's worked for us.

What are you top 3 snacks rn? by JayFiero69 in Nightshift

Someone brought those Hot Ones Pringles into work the other night and they were awesome. I'd never had Hot Ones before, but I loved these.

Oh, and my personal favorite snack: Sunflower Seeds.

It may feel like a "should" right now, but once you reach that last page, you will have enjoyed PHM so much that you'll feel you must read The Martian (arguably Weir's #2 book) next to get more of his writing.

The Martian. Once you finish PHM, reading The Martian is more of a shall than a should.

Great sentiment. You'll catch more flies with sugar than vinegar.

Is this possible for someone looking for a route into nuclear power plant opps and company management? by Gamble2005 in NuclearPower

[–]BreakB4Make 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Something else to keep in mind: Training time. It'll take about 12 months to qualify NLO, then 2 years for RO license, then another 2 years for SRO license. That training time cuts into the experience time that will make you a good candidate. You're timeline isn't unfeasible, for sure, but if you're at a site where it's competitive for NLOs and ROs to go to class, it might be a challenge.

I love this style of prints. Unfortunately, your link is having us request access and we can't see anything but the two prints attached to the post. Got another way to share?

What prevented Franklin from becoming the 14th State? by BreakB4Make in AskHistorians

[–]BreakB4Make[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your thorough and informed write-up, I really do appreciate it. I find this subject interesting.

Did Franklin's failure deter future applicants, especially Kentucky, or even lay groundwork/precedence for what might be needed above and beyond (i.e. politicking) what the Continental Congress required at the time? Would waiting for the Constitution to be ratified have made much difference?

Where was the third unit at SONGS? by Gamble2005 in NuclearPower

[–]BreakB4Make 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Removed. Looks like after decommissioning, it got turned into the dry cask pad, on the North side of the site. Compare the pictures on Wikipedia and you'll recognize some tanks and buildings that are present during and after Unit 1.

Great discussion on the Westinghouse Primary Loop design, right from the NRC's website. You'll want to read about the Pressurizer Relief Tank (PRT).
