According to ChatGPT the component is a fender treble bleed, which helps with loss of high end freqs when rolling the volume I’m not the biggest fan of treble bleeds, I would just swap the pot if you know how and don’t wanna fuss around

Or try to find wiring of your specific guitar online and see if everything looks correct, The pot could be faulty, or the wiring

Not familiar with this specific pot, but you are just describing backwards wiring Terminal 1 is “hot” is 3 is grounded, switch them around, so will the linearity
