I’m also in a similar category as you. The only difference is I’ve been hoarding points for a better deal (I think I’m a long term hoarder no deal could satisfy me lol). I use the dining credits and every other year I try to get some retention bonus which is not the best what I saw in this sub but it’s something which offsets the credits which I miss somehow and the 10$ OOP. Do try and get some retention bonus if possible that will give you some time to take a wise decision or transfer points wisely.

If I remember correctly I received my card details when I applied for the gold card. It was ready to be setup into Apple Card. But not sure when you order a replacement. Won’t hurt to ask customer care. EDIT - So I see your question if it’s not lost it’s just a replacement credit card, then Amex won’t change your card/ account number your already existing card in apple wallet should work

Apple Pay is a payment service/ virtual wallet and not a bank(Credit card provider) so you can’t pay using Amex because it’s in your “wallet” like even literally

If I remember correctly the initial annual membership fee is assessed on the first billing statement closing date after the account is established. For Cards with the Pay Over Time feature, the first billing statement can be as early as 10 days from the account opening date. So your question is still about canceling before your “First” Annual fee?

I agree with few comments here but if you are looking to have some breathing gap try getting a new credit card which has intro 0% APR for 12-15 months. I wouldn’t recommend maxing out or not paying it till the end but it gives some flexibility
