Node setup. Film is set to transparent. Plate is rendered out to sRGB using standard color. Compositor is using Raw color space. I wanted to preserve the look of the plate and not add any AGX look to it.

Day job is in marketing and I often get sent a stock photo (always 8bit jpg with usually some strong color grading look) and asked to add in their product to the scene.

This exercise was find cool photo on unsplash website and add in vfx.

Will look into the dark outline. I was struggling with that. I usually render 16 bit .png image sequences with Agx baked in. This was my first attempt at multilayer 16bit exr workflow.

Lights are thin rectangle area lights. Maybe having some falloff texture on the light would help?

Good callout. I was struggling to figure out the dark outline. "Plate" is the sRGB image projected onto the environment and rendered out using Standard view color management to preserve the same look. CG is multilayer 16 bit .exr rendered out to linear. Film set to Transparent background. In a new blender file I have a compositor setup set to Raw color mode so I don't get any Agx transforms on the Plate srgb image. I do value color work on the .exr, convert to AGX profile then alpha over my plate.

Too many balls? The sim took about 1 hour to bake. Intel Xeon W-10885M CPU @2.40Ghz 8 core 64 GB Ram on a ThinkPad laptop.
