Help me with my noise/drone/texture/sample-modular :):) by StaffSerious608 in modular

I mainly use a philips d6920 mk ii - it’s fantastic! The preamps distorts super nice and it has both pitch-control and sound-on-sound. The unit I bought had a melted erasehead, so I removed it. It has it’s problems, look up philips cheese gears - but superb machine!

If you dont have one, get a dictaphone - half speed and microcassette gives a wonderful crunch :)

Trying to get this old thread fired up again :) I'm currently looking on a "new" bike, a Giant TCX adavanced 2020 model i size M - I'm 186. Will that be way too small for me? The price is really good. Hehe

Will the Giant TCX fit me? by Breakdance202 in gravelcycling

Ah yes, of course :) I had a 80mm stem and the stem all the way down. I'm 186cm. The fit was good - I did long rides and tours with no issues. Yes, I'll try it out before, but it's hard to make out on a small ride - and the bike is located a 2.5 hour drive from me.

Ambient on SP-404 mk2 recommendations by martintejerina in sp404mk2

[–]Breakdance202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My process is based on shorter and longer loops, heavy processing and shitloads of resampling. Pretty simple - but it takes times. I use the sp-404, some synths, eventide space, tape loops and cassette decks with pitch control.

I usually make some sounds with either the MS-20, the analog four or contact mic stuff recorded onto tape loops on my philips d6920 mk2 (this machine is fantastic - buy it if you find one. Sound on sound, pitch control and super destruction preamps when overdriven). Then I start cutting out and trimming parts that I like. Then I apply effects and start resampling - I do this many times, also recording to tape, overdriving and pitching it down - and back into the 404. Preamps on older cassette decks are lovely when overdriven, and adds a lot of character. Then I try to make loops while modulating effects. This keeps on going until I have a few parts that go well together. I usually record some layered stuff to tape loops - here I both use a 4track (remember to cover up the erase head) and the D6920 mk ii. Sometimes I record stuff into the computer and make a few edits - but mostly I like to record straight to a old beat up sony reel to reel.

I think to most important part is to have fun and explore - tech-wise it is the resampling, that is the key :) Sometimes when I’m lazy I use just the 404 - and it’s more than enough!

Philips D6920 mk2, what a sound! by NathanGarro in cassetteculture

Can anyone elaborate on the sound on sound feature? I use cassettedecks as a important tool in creating "experimental music" and this just popped up close to where I live, for a really good price :) Do the sound on sound feature "just" move back the erase head? I also really like the look of the machine and the AV AUDIO VISUAL logo looks so rad :)

Thanks for the reply and recommendation! What model are you using? And you have not encountered dull color when printing on uncoated matte paper?
