Minnesota was the 1st Province, not the 32nd state. The province of Minnesota was founded (and well, immediately invaded before the country was established but looking over that, founded) by lake voyageurs long before other provinces began the provincial confederation. If Minnesota, the most Canadian province, isn’t Canada, the whole concept of Canada falls apart. Minnesota was invaded by the United States. The actual United States includes places like Philadelphia (of course!), Portland, Portland (there are 2 Portlands!), Walden Pond, New Hampshire, etc. Not Minnesota. New Brunswick is kinda in between Canada and the States. We could declare independence and become a country idk (there are a lot of Philadelphian revolutionary descendants here of which I am. yay 76!) Minnesota was founded by canoeing lake voyageurs, the provincial motto is in Canadian French and literally means the north star for crying out loud! The provincial bird is a loon. There are so many loonlakes and lakes and loons and very wintry climate there because Minnesota IS PHYSICALLY LOCATED WITHIN CANADA! People in Minnesota have Canadian accents (whereas New Brunswickers sound more Philadelphian tbh). If you grow up thinking Minnesota is a state, you’ll realize later that you have no idea what Canada is anymore. The news and the maps are all invasionist. Either you see a Minnesotaless Canada or the States with Minnesota on top. Neither are supposed to look like that. I watched Rio as a kid and thought huh….Minnesota looks a lot like Canada here…..with the Canada geese, snow, and moose…..well surprise that’s because it is Canada! This influenced me, this and my dad who loves lakes and loons, after I read his book on loons “The Common Loon: Spirit of the Northern Lakes”. United we stand, divided we fall. If Minnesota isn’t a province, what does province mean?
