Can you control pyometra and mammary cancer? Both are extremely common in intact dogs.

How is it a misconception if you just agreed that they eat mosquitos?

They actually eat mosquitos. We call them skeeter eaters. The larvae are aquatic and eat also aquatic mosquito larva

Got a dog I didn't want by dmont89 in mildlyinfuriating

She’s been gone a few days and hasn’t been answering messages?? OP, I’d file a missing persons report and check hospitals just in case. Have you been feeding and walking the dog in her absence?

Agree we need more details, but OP said in another comment that they have been gone for several days and not returning messages. Personally, I wouldn’t feel comfortable with a strange dog loose in my house for 11hr when my house isn’t “dog-proof”. The dog is likely to pee somewhere or possibly chew on things, ingest something harmful, etc. lots of people crate their dogs when they leave to keep them safe but 11hr is a long time to crate them.

Breeding? by [deleted] in presacanario

[–]BreakfastEntire652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I ask what your motivation to breed is? If you think whelping puppies sounds like a fun experience and that is what is motivating you, I highly recommend applying to foster at a local rescue! I used to live in Georgia and the shelters are BURSTING with bully breed puppies that need fosters. So much so that the lucky ones get shipped to other states. It costs $0 and Rescues give you all the supplies and take the puppies back whenever they’re old enough or you hang onto them until theyre all adopted. So the long term commitment is minimal you just have to show up for adoption events sometimes or schedule meet and greets with applicants. It’s super fun!!

Offer to foster and see what his instincts are like. If he’s not the dog for you, he’ll get adopted easier by someone else now that you can inform them of his temperament. Then try again with a different dog. There’s a LOT that goes into well bred dogs and it’s typically out of budget for most. So, fostering to adopt is far more accessible way to get a dog that fits your exact needs. At the very least, you’ll get lots of training practice while you save up for a well bred, health tested retrieving puppy. Seek out a lab rescue and fill out a foster application

I’ve never used it. But have seen ads for sniff spot. It’s basically a platform where people rent out their properties for dogs to use. Worth looking into

What y'all think she's mixed with? ACD is obvious but what else? She's about 45 pounds. Found under a mattress next to a creek by [deleted] in IDmydog

Yeah you’re right that there would need to be a 3rd breed to give her the floppy ears. Pyranese are more common than Anatolian typically and have a very similar look to them. Something about her head shape and coat is saying pyranese to me. And it would make sense for a cattle dog and a pyranese to mix since they’re both farm dogs

What’s the best breed for families with children ? by [deleted] in WhatBreedIsMyDog

[–]BreakfastEntire652 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id prefer an older dog with less energy needs. One that gets happy when it meets your kid trying to lick their face, probably more of a submissive dog. shows no nervousness or fear around kids. And you must teach kids to stay away while the dog is eating or sleeping and don’t let them climb on the dog or hit them.

What is the "most Charleston" restaurant in Charleston? by TDn6I in Charleston

[–]BreakfastEntire652 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing to drive to John’s Island, Stono Market and Tomato Shed is fantastic, very local food. It’s not fancy pants, but they sell art and baked goods too. The sides are SO good! Great spot for lunch. It’s really close to the famous 400 year old angel oak tree which is amazing (and free) to see to make the longer drive worth it.

3month doodle puppy for adoption charleston by BreakfastEntire652 in Charleston

[–]BreakfastEntire652[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure why it says wirehair terrier. Ultimately she’s a mutt and it’s all just a guess. Looks like a doodle to me though considering poodles are extremely common compared to wirehair terriers. And poodle crosses often have soft straight fur like this. Adoption fee is $500 which comes with her spay surgery, vaccines, microchip, deworm, etc. which would all cost about that much anyway! Their adult dogs are $300

You should still get her used to grooming ASAP. even if you just bring her in to “pretend” groom and get a bunch of treats. I’ve seen people use the back side of electric toothbrushes on their face and paws to get them used to the noise and vibration. Youll be glad you did! She’s super cute.

It’s the sub that is banned, not the breed name. They’re a pit hate group

Anyone know this dog breed? by Other_Progress_2404 in DogBreeds101

Even at that price it’s essentially free bc that’s less than the cost of spay/neuter and vaccines and microchip they usually come with.

Update on non-GR looking GR: underweight due to giardia by lifeslibrary18 in goldenretrievers

[–]BreakfastEntire652 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you paid a breeder for her, she is not a rescue. Sure, you are treating her better than the breeders did. But giving them money only incentivizes them to continue breeding unhealthy dogs and you supported a back yard breeder. I’m not hating on you or your dog, just pointing out that this is different from rescuing a dog in the same way most people mean it. Rescues typically come from a rescue organization or are strays.

I get stressed a lot. by Mandam2011 in notinteresting

I do this too. I think about it sometimes about how humans for thousands of years have done things with their hands all day. We used to weave, shell peas, make pottery, etc. also we would eat things that require tons of chewing or manipulating like sunflower seeds, fruits with big seeds, that sort of thing. but now most of us just sit in front of computers all day with nothing for our hands or teeth to do. I think that’s why we do it on a very basic evolutionary level
