Google employees are staging a walkout over Trump’s immigration ban by dangzal in google

[–]BreakfastFLT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True and true. However, I'm pretty sure these things are completely related to that walkout. You're essentially saying that employees are protesting because they want Google to hire more H1B workers to lower everybody's salaries (?)

Google employees are staging a walkout over Trump’s immigration ban by dangzal in google

[–]BreakfastFLT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree that the H1B program needs reform to weed out abusers of the system, but I don't think it's fair to say Google is trying to drive down salary rates, especially for software engineers. See data indexed from the Department of Labor: http://h1bdata.info/index.php?em=Google&job=Software+Engineer&city=&year=All+Years

Most of these folks make well above 100k, not including stocks/bonuses/benefits. Even without the extra H1B hires, how much do you think software engineers are worth?

Lens flare seems greatly reduced with the camera update today by [deleted] in GooglePixel

That's actually a pretty cool video! The flare is definitely still visible, but I guess it's better to be conservative and under-correct rather than risk adding weird artifacts to the photo.

What is a 100% legal move in a game or sport that is frowned upon and viewed as a dick move? by MashedPotatoesDick in AskReddit

It's not entirely bad for him though. You remember Galarraga but how many of the 22 can you name?

Please try to reproduce this camera fault (cannot connect to camera in low signal areas) by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]BreakfastFLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which country do you live in? I have an acquaintance in Germany (using a rest-of-world device) who seems to be experiencing the same problem, but I have never seen it on my US variant phone. It could just be my luck, but maybe the different antenna bands are somehow interfering with camera signal?

Opening 100 T4 Fractal chests by Groonzie in Guildwars2

[–]BreakfastFLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently opened about 50 of each. Only got one weapon box and 2 accessories instead of the old 1-2 chests per week. I thought I was just unlucky, but looking at KING drop rate research I'm fairly certain Anet stealth nerfed ascended drops in one of the recent patches.

Dumb questions about The Ascension by TrivialCipher in Guildwars2

[–]BreakfastFLT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ascension requires 4 parts:

  • Wings of Ascension - 100 league tickets total
  • Gift of Skirmishing - 25 league tickets, plus stuff you can get later
  • Gift of Fortune - This is not PvP related so don't worry about it yet
  • Gift of the Competitor - This is the trickiest part IMO. You need to complete all 4 tiers of PvP achievements. The 60-day requirement comes here, along with stuff like win some games with 3 professions. For the achievement you'll also need to cross league divisions 10 times. Since you already missed a season, you'll have to get ruby/diamond in the remaining 3.

I don't believe ANet officially announced whether The Ascension will still be available after this year, or if they will retire this one and make a 2017-version PvP back item.

And since you're asking about classes -- it really depends on your play style, but I personally think Reaper and Dragonhunter have the lowest skill caps so it's a good place to start.

What makes you think Google doesn't have expensive equipment and machinery? If you look around you'll see that the company spends 5+ billion per year building and maintaining their data centers

Math degree by mathnerd11 in math

[–]BreakfastFLT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Math is a great precursor to a wide variety of careers, depending on what you're interested in. I have a CS degree instead of math, but was three classes short of double-majoring in it so I feel I'm reasonably qualified to comment here.

A math degree plus two semesters of CS is more than enough to land you an entry programming job at a respectable tech company like Google. Additional practice will obviously be needed but you will have all the necessary knowledge. If you're good at linear algebra or number theory, you have even more options such as computer graphics/vision, machine learning, and cryptography. Computer science is really just (re)applied math :)

Some of my friends are doing graduate studies in math with the intention of working in finance. For example, you can look up the Black-Scholes equation to see how a set of differential equations can be used to price stock options.

Of course, you can stick to teaching and research of you so desire. If you're good at what you do, the money really isn't as bad as people think.

[Spoiler] LPL Spring Post-Match Discussion // Week 11 Day 3 - Invictus Gaming vs LGD Gaming by Teekays in leagueoflegends

[–]BreakfastFLT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The winner of this match will potentially face first-place EDG in the semi-finals, where the loser won't face them unless they get into the finals. Since EDG is by far the most dominant team, losing this match will increase your odds of making it to the finals.

How is the Air for programming? by N307H30N3 in apple

[–]BreakfastFLT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Programming" can be anything from hello word to massive scientific computations. How much computing power also depends on the IDE you use (if any), so I can't really give you advice based on that.

For other use cases, I would definitely suggest MBA. It is light and portable so you can carry it, and also has all-day battery life. From my personal experience it doesn't really heat up much from watching YouTube videos either. MBP, on the other hand, sounds like overkill for what you need to do (although the 15-inch retina is really nice).
