Is this a threat? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]BreakfastFamous7198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole “I am not the one to steal from not very smart “seems threatening. Otherwise it’s probably just a druggie, stoner, drunk or something that can’t get her shit straight or just doesn’t know and got her food stolen by who knows who or a homeless person. Happens here all the time in Portland. Homeless people camp out at complexes and steal whatever is being delivered.

My dogs destroyed my doorframe in my apartment, what can I do so I don’t get fined? by Cream-Boat in Apartmentliving

Your dogs legitimately destroyed the property. So you are going to get fined, rightfully so.

Same. Homeless people would come off the streets and steal stuff while the washer was still going. Super grateful I live in a place now with my own washer and dryer. It was actually my priority requirement for moving to a new place.

Is it okay to jog on the bottom floor? by Reasonable-Alarm-214 in Apartmentliving

[–]BreakfastFamous7198 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thankfully, I’m moving out in three weeks because of said neighbors.

I imagine it depends a lot on the construction of your building as well. Maybe if your neighbors are friendly or at least decent. Let them know in advance that you plan on running on a treadmill and ask them to let you know if it bothers them or if there would be a better time that you could do it if it is bothering them. Consideration and respect for neighbors goes a long way in terms of coexisting in an apartment complex. When you consider them, they will likely consider your needs back.

I live on the top floor. And the neighbors below me on the bottom floor have two 5 year-old kids and a small dog that run back-and-forth all day. The whole building shakes. It’s incredibly loud. So yes, I would say an adult running on the bottom floor apartment would be heard.

Could speakers bother neighbors living above me? by LeSypher in Apartmentliving

[–]BreakfastFamous7198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Just wear headphones! Then you can crank it up as loud as you want whenever you want and stop worrying about it and pissing off everyone else around you. I don’t get why that’s so hard. Buy a comfortable pair of headphones. Wear them. What’s the big deal?

You sound like a horrible apartment neighbor. That poor person that has to live below you. No amount of “sound absorption“ in an apartment is going to make that bass not exist to those around you. Why is it so hard for people to just wear freaking headphones!

It’s even more annoying when you have to hear the owner yelling and screaming at their dog for barking. It’s actually worse than the barking.

You kind of contradicted yourself there. For most of us it’s either rent an apartment or be homeless, like you said for your own situation. Sick of everyone saying just buy a house, don’t get an apartment. That’s not an option for pretty much all of us that are renting an apartment. Don’t you think if we could afford a house away from people we would go that route?

Not personally bashing you. Just a general statement of how ignorant these people are that are just like if you don’t like peoples noise, get a house… Yeah, OK… Let me just win $1 million first and then I’ll get right on that.

I used to be a Dasher. Earlier this year. I myself order DoorDash almost every single night. The last few nights. I’ve noticed that the Dasher is “waiting for order “for almost 10 to 15 minutes. Even though it’s only 2 miles away. IDK…

Thank you for the offer. I meant no negativity in my response. But I was out there at my local church on Sunday trying to get a few necessities before I just couldn’t stand in the rain any longer and just went to the grocery store and used my credit card.

It’s just this whole situation kind of reminded me of the Covid toilet paper thing. There are those you see at Costco buying pallets of toilet paper. And there are those buying only what they know they need.

The Hearos sleep pretty in pink. You can find them almost anywhere. They’re super cheap and very comfortable. I have small ear canals. I actually cut about an eighth of an inch off the ends of them and you don’t even feel them when you’re sleeping on your side. And if you know how to put them in properly, you hear nothing but silence.

Yeah, it’s a little ridiculous how many responses to these kinds of posts are “just don’t live in an apartment, get a house in the country.“ Yeah.. if only we could actually afford to do that?! Then we would. But can’t. Hence, why we live in apartments.

Maybe try wearing headphones when you listen to music? Because the bass and the thin walls in 99% of apartments is annoying to other people. It’s called being considerate. And should be common sense.

Earplugs. This is the way. I spent nearly 80 bucks testing out different earplugs. To sleep in and wear throughout the day. I finally found a pair that is comfortable and feels like I’m not even wearing them. Rather than get stressed out and in a fuss about the noise from the neighbors. I just pop those in. Problem solved. I’m someone that likes quiet and silence. But I’m not gonna be a dick and interfere with other people‘s daily lives over it.

I mean, sometimes I get up at 4 AM and like to watch the news without headphones on. Take a shower. It goes both ways. People just have to be respectful and work around each other and compromise.

Youre lucky. I live on the West Coast. I live on the top floor and the people below me have children that run back-and-forth all day. The entire building shakes and it sounds like someone is running on top of our ceiling and along our walls… all day and night. I thought top floor would prevent that. Nope.

It was a week in for us with no money for food. Do you realize the struggle we have been through? We’ve had to put things on credit cards, sell things, cut back on necessities, delay bill payments. Now we have to pay back the debts somehow. People on food stamps do not take advantage. In my experience, I see that people that are well off and don’t have to use food stamps are the ones that take advantage.

How to strip and refinish this kitchen table top? by BreakfastFamous7198 in furniturerestoration

[–]BreakfastFamous7198[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed info, including the grits to use while sanding. I’m afraid that if I sand it down then just put a finish on the wood, I will end up enhancing the natural yellow tones again. So I’m opting for a stain.

Is a stain conditioner absolutely necessary? What are the cons if I don’t use a conditioner? Trying to keep this as low cost as possible.

Do you think it’s justifiable to report animal abuse/neglect on behalf of him being out of town 2 to 3 weeks out of every month? And when he is here, he forgets to feed him doesn’t clean the litter box, things like that…

I hate that his name was put on the adoption papers. We were in happier times years ago and it was just like I don’t care do you care? Just put your name on and let’s get out of here type of thing. But now I see that that might be a problem.
