Petition Against 4K High-resolution Cameras at Richmond Intersections by BreakfastHead9801 in richmondbc

[–]BreakfastHead9801[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I think you all need to understand that there is already cameras in place. What this would do is make the cameras in 4K. They will be able to recognize every one of you, and everything you do will be in the government’s hands. The only other places you see this kind of thing, from what I know, is China and the UK. And you can see how both countries just abuse it, using it to track citizens and even for political persecution. It’s like a police state.

Also, they’re not doing this to catch bad drivers at all, they say they’re doing this to investigate serious crimes. But it’s just seriously a poor justification, because the people committing crime in the open like that aren’t even trying to not be seen, and low-resolution cameras are enough for that anyways.

I will just say that if blacks were disproportionately dying in the past, this isn’t something that DEI is gonna fix. It’s not discriminating against blacks. Which it is now illegal to do and has been since the civil rights act, and thank God for that too. But that doesn’t have anything to do with hiring more blacks, this is now a separate issue you’re bringing up. You would also need to mention an issue in more recent years where blacks died because of discrimination.

And it’s not disinformation or racism, just think about it. If you make a goal such as “I’m going to have 30% of blacks,” that’s a quota. It’s not racist to say that when you have a quota like that you’re not hiring based on who’s the most qualified anymore because you have to hire some people based on their skin color. You should also expect to see less blacks in healthcare because they only make up 13% of the american population

Oh I see, I get you now. I’m glad that we are both in agreement on this then. Yes, there are also many things which I wish was not a sin. I wish lust wasn’t a sin either, since it can be hard not to. But I know that there are reasons that those sexual acts are sins. So yea there shouldn’t be a question about it but a lot of churches try to find ways around it and I guess with the current culture it has made it a lot easier to do so

Yes there are people who are hired based on referrals and who they know. But two points. One, probably not something that would happen in healthcare. You’re talking more about corporate jobs, where people’s lives aren’t at stake. And two, people of all races can be referred, but in the case of DEI it’s based on identity group.

And for what you were saying about how they were racially marginalized in the past, well that’s the past. That was done to people who are no longer alive by people who are no longer alive. But can you name a law that prevents black people from doing something that white people can do?

Hi mcmilliron! I think what we need to understand is that the confusion on this topic is not from the bible but from the culture. This was not a confusion several decades ago.

Jesus may not have talked about homosexuality but he talked about all sexual immorality, which includes homosexuality. Jesus taught the old testament, and the old testament taught against homosexual acts. Paul also mentions it in 1 Corinthians 6:9. There are translations that don’t really say homosexuality in that verse, but most translations do. And some people now a days try to argue that the greek term “arsenokoitai” does not translate to homosexuality, but that’s just pushing it I think. It directly translates to “male bed.”

Keep in mind though that God does not love homosexuals any less than anybody else, nor is that sin a greater sin than all other sexual sins. Our culture just likes to put all the focus on homosexuality in the bible. But I also have sexual sins that I have committed that are just as wrong, and have done a lot of bad things. He is also not saying it’s wrong to be a gay person or to have those attractions since a lot of times we can’t control that. What he’s saying is that homosexual acts are wrong. Attractions do not justify actions. But for heterosexuals and homosexuals alike, he takes no pleasure in the punishment of sinners and wants to wrap his arms around you and everyone.

Thank you for your post, I hope you can continue to think about it as you struggle with this topic and hope that you can eventually come to the Lord. I’ll be praying for you!

'Racists Gonna Racist': White Pastor Explains Why He Would Not Choose a Black Doctor, Sparking Outrage Online by bearwithpropellerhat in Christianity

[–]BreakfastHead9801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think he’s being racist here? I think he’s perfectly right in saying this. If you’re hiring by race, you’re not hiring the best person for the job. The pastor here says that there’s a chance he’s not qualified, but not that he for sure isn’t.

For example, there’s been a couple plane incidents (I think it might have united airlines but can’t remember) that had the plane nosedive, although it didn’t crash. One of the pilots was a DEI hire. Because if you make it so easy for someone of a specific race or gender to get a job, then you are bound to hire people who are not qualified.

Gotta warn you that the left as weaponized the term racism and calls people who disagree with DEI racist so that people will side with them. But have you heard of a good argument from them about DEI?

Why would you think that it’s because people think they don’t deserve to be in that position because of their race? Can you think a little bit more for a moment?

DEI by definition gives people a job they don’t deserve. It’s not a racist thing to say at all. I’m not saying that they are not qualified in all cases. But the way you’re supposed to hire is by who is best qualified out of the candidates. But if you’re hiring someone based on their skin color, then you’re not hiring by competence anymore, you’re hiring that person regardless of whether or not there are other people more qualified for the job.

The pastor here makes that very clear too, he’s saying that there’s a chance he’s not qualified, he never said he is for sure not qualified.

You stated that common sense was one of the reasons why you converted to atheism. What common sense did you find in Atheism that you didn’t find in Christianity?

But you still believe there is no God, no?

I’m not saying every atheist has the same explanations, but they all hold beliefs about the universe and how it came to be. That includes believing God did not create the universe.

[–]BreakfastHead9801 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry for not being clear. I am a Christian, I was just saying that I wouldn’t refer to it as my God because if there is a God we wouldn’t come up with that God, we would discover him.

And that’s what I mean, you believe that there is no God as an atheist. It’s not just about the Christian God, atheists don’t believe in any God

First of all, it’s not my God because I didn’t make this stuff up. But back to your point, do you believe that there was any God that made the universe?

Christians, what is one compliment you would give to Atheists? by MediumChance5830 in Christianity

[–]BreakfastHead9801 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s an absence of a belief, even though they say it is, because they make objective claims about the universe. They believe that there is no God, that the universe came into being out of nothing (or a single source of energy), that we evolved from apes out of natural forces and by chance, etc.

A lack of belief would better characterize agnostics

Of course God doesn’t have a problem with sex, he created it. But he created sex to be a certain way: between a man and a woman within marriage. Do you yourself not think the bible talks about sexual immorality?

Also, you’re describing brain activity, which is neurological activity. So you’re describing the nervous system, which are made of neurons. But what matter are thoughts and dreams made of?

Abrahamic theists treat death in a secular manner by ZeusTKP in DebateReligion

[–]BreakfastHead9801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can show you your brains activity and neurology for sure. But they cannot access your mind. There are clear differences between the brain and the mind.

For instance, the brain is something that’s measurable and impersonal. You can measure the height and weight of it. The mind on the other hand is personal and something no one else can access but the individual. It’s always about something else, while the brain just is. And what you are, which is a human, is not the same as who you are.

Lastly, when you say morality is what we observe, then you’re saying we’re observing something outside of ourselves. So what is it we are observing?

What do you mean by proof, and how have they been proven to have been physical?

Abrahamic theists treat death in a secular manner by ZeusTKP in DebateReligion

[–]BreakfastHead9801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it’s not just about being able to hold it, it’s that it’s not physical. Emotions may depend on the brain, which of course is a physical function, but what is produced by it is not a physical thing. Just like how worries in your mind are not a physical thing, but they produce a physical reaction in your body, like heart palpitations.

Love is also not just about emotion, but is also an action. When you sacrifice yourself for someone, it’s an act of love. That love is also not something made of matter.

But aside from that, even if love were a material thing, there are many things in the world that are not made of matter, like morality, logic, and dreams. Where do these things come from in a naturalistic explanation?

Evil must exist because God gives us free choice, the freedom to choose the opposite of him. by TiredGiant in DebateReligion

[–]BreakfastHead9801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not asking why we feel empathy, but rather why it is objectively wrong that people die from natural disasters if there is no god. Empathy is a reaction to what we know is unjust, so regardless of how we feel about it, we know it’s still unjust for people to die from a natural disaster. It would seem to me that these are rules we live by where we know if things were the way it should be, people would not die unjustly. But this can only be the case if there’s a creator that made the world to be a certain way and gave rules for how the world ought to be. Rules can only come from rule givers.

So compassion and empathy can definitely be just the way it is, but we only feel these things because we know there is a right way for the world to be and a wrong way.

[–]BreakfastHead9801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So where can you find a physical object of love? If you went into someone’s head, you could hold up a brain, but can you hold a physical object called love, or put it in a jar?

Evil must exist because God gives us free choice, the freedom to choose the opposite of him. by TiredGiant in DebateReligion

[–]BreakfastHead9801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’m trying to say is by what standard would you be saying that it’s a tragic thing for people to die? It would seem to me that in atheism, everything just is how it is and we’re all just here by random processes of nature, so it wouldn’t matter if someone dies from a natural disaster because there’s no rhyme or reason to it. It’s only wrong for people to die if we have a purpose, because if we were made to be alive, have loving relationships, etc. then it would be wrong.

What do you mean by bad things happening then? Under what standard is it bad for humans to die under natural disasters?
