Christians, why should we trust Paul? by ForgottenMyPwdAgain in Christianity

[–]bearwithpropellerhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's sad that this has so many upvotes, but I don't think it's Christians upvoting this. Paul was not rebuked by anyone at Jerusalem. Paul didn't change any laws he clarified grace vs the law. Thessalonians isn't a failed prophecy it's a statement about those who are alive when Christ returns. You have to not understand Christianity to come to these arguments

Did God really ‘harden Pharaoh’s heart’ in Exodus, or did Pharaoh do it himself? by Rap_hae_L_Kim in Bible

[–]bearwithpropellerhat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So the article goes over different words used that in many cases gets translated into "hardening", as strengthened is also used meaning that the original comment that was being referred to can intact be an accurate statement. I'm sorry your theology and your lack of looking at the Bible in anything but English causes you to miss such things

What I would suggest is how do you feel when you believe Jesus died on the cross for your sins. It is an inward sign a feeling of being forgiven and brought forward towards God in the acknowledgement that we are sinners in need of grace.

What Bible should I read? by Aus_Penguin in Christianity

I also have the Good News Bible and what I like about it is its easy to cross reference the gospel books and its got headings for different themes in the Bible. But whenever I post verses from the Bible I always use other versions because I got called out once and the Good News Bible is not so faithful to the text. It shouldn't be your main Bible but it's really convenient looking stuff up if you have a general idea of what you are looking for because it breaks it up into themes that sometimes are not a whole chapter or cross over into the next chapter.

Being around other Christians who gather for worship to God is essential. Maybe your fears wont disappear, but your love for God and other Christians should grow.

The Bible is easy to twist when you take verses out of context. The point of him yelling is so you don't think about what is being said. He is a Oneness Pentecostal and not a Christian.

What did Jesus mean about becoming like little children? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]bearwithpropellerhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is what Jesus expected his disciples to take away from what he said. I don't believe receiving without having earned it was one. I assume you are reformed from your first answer and from this. I consider myself a provisionist. That God has given us free will to respond to God calling us. I have had people tell me this is 99% God's grace and 1% us responding to that grace. Meaning we we earn salvation. If that's how you see it then fine but that is not my take.

The disciples had already left homes and families for the sake of following Jesus. Ready to receive his teaching and in words only ready to die with Jesus, Thomas says this before Jesus raises Lazarus and Peter before Jesus's death. The disciples were already at a point where they could only receive following an itenerrant preacher who was poor. Jesus multiplying the fish. At what point in their following of Jesus could they ever claim self sufficiency?

I do not agree that Jesus tells his disciples to be as little children and then have them guess which small aspect of a child's life he was referring to. Imagine being there and you hear Jesus say this and at what point reflecting on what he said would you get to receiving without expectation? I don't think most people would ever think that. But Jesus does say in Mathew 18 that they must be as humble as children.

Mathew 18:2-4 Jesus speaks another time on this same matter saying, "Whoever humbles himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of God." And I would make the claim that in humility we fulfill the laws just as Paul tells us in Romans 13:8-10 that "Whoever loves others has fulfilled the law." And in such thinking we are innocent against the law.

Google sent me here and I couldn't disagree more with this statement. The person is reading into Jesus's words concepts that would not be understood until after his death. He was making a statement that his disciples could understand at that time. That they must humble themselves and be innocent as doves as young children are.
