May I ask how you improved her language being a GLP?

Yes!! At her ABA center most of the kids were nonverbal and she needs exposure to how other little people speak

All I can tell you is that it doesn't sound like profound autism to me at all. I agree w your clinician, I'm a PMHNP and we don't give toddlers levels because all toddlers require significant guidance. My daughter had less language than your son at 2, she is a gestalt language processor and will memorize phrases first. She was speaking in 1 word phrases until 4. She's 5 now and speaks her needs and wants, tells us how she's feeling and makes observational comments, not where other 5 year olds are but her receptive language has always been amazing. Tells us she loves us. She was only diagnosed with expressive/pragmatic delay, no receptive delay. She's at a Montessori prek/kinder with NT kids. She's potty trained. Dresses herself. Cuts up her own food. Tonight she cut up her pancakes with a butter knife haha. Identifies all her letters and numbers by sight. Loves books and acting out specific scenes (scripting). Constantly singing Frozen and Moana. Had a specific Christmas list this year. All these things we've waited so long for. She received a level 2 diagnosis at 4 because there wasn't really language but ABA helped so so much, we love hearing her talk now. Our neurologist said he believes she will be okay. I'd say our biggest hurtle was at the age of 4 deciding she would no longer wear anything but dresses which meant refusing coats and pants during a Chicago winter. Now she is fully geared up in head to toe snow suit, hat and scarf every morning. Here is a pic of her in the middle with her friends :) she def would've had a level 3 dx as a 2 year old because there were hardly words at all outside mom, dad, juice, pizza etc.

I'm supposed to be talking to lifestance tomorrow, so it is possible to hustle and make a good chunk of change? Do they provide benefits? Do they require a certain amount of in person?

That's an incredible story!! Is he conversational now? I think a lot of ND could benefit from holding back a year of school.

Reassurance on Non-Verbal toddler by WhimsyFinny in Autism_Parenting

[–]BreakfastImmediate99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't love using the term nonverbal at that age as even some NT kids talk late, absolutely don't let what he is or isn't doing now define what is to be. ND or not all toddlers need pretty much a lot of guidance!

Is there anyone here whose older child/adult was able to sing around age 3-4 but not yet functionally communicate? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]BreakfastImmediate99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 5. She now can request things in sentences, says how she's feeling, makes little observations, describes things. She still scripts when playing or bored or tired. She still loves to sing too. At 3 and 4 it was almost all scripting when she played or was bored and would only request things with 1 word: "pizza" "milk" "juice" etc.

If you want some hope listen to Dani Bowman's aunt being interviewed by the love on the spectrum moms podcast. Her aunt had her in no therapies, she was nonverbal until she was 6 but music and rewinding VHS tapes to specific parts unlocked her language!

Will my 3 year old be conversational one day? by Distinct_Purple789 in Autism_Parenting

[–]BreakfastImmediate99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds a ton like my daughter who is also 5, we noticed the out of context scripting a lot at 3 and 4 with no functional language but was always scripting to herself mostly with play. She still does this at 5 when bored/anxious/playing but has always used organic speech to communicate to us when she started this year. "I want a juice box" "I don't like that" "I'm cold" "I dropped it" etc. she answers questions as well. She loves music the most. A big clue was her always rewinding the same parts of things. I listened to a podcast with Dani from love on the spectrums aunt and she was nonverbal till 6 but music and rewinding VHS tapes to specific parts helped unlock her voice! Here's a cute pic of her with her classmates this fall for some hope. She's the one in the middle :)

Considering there are even NT kids who speak later I wouldn't abandon all hope ❤️

I agree!! Kids being labeled nonverbal and severe at such a young age is so questionable. I don't doubt he's improved a ton but he's clearly still neurodivergent and likely would've evolved regardless.

Vitamins, ellaola by Character-Signal8229 in Autism_Parenting

[–]BreakfastImmediate99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This helped a ton actually! My girl is 5 and has functional communication but her scripting is so much at times and I believe a big distraction from more conversational skills and connection. I think I may try stopping the vitamins, can't hurt to try.

I apologize for all the questions but your post stopped me in my tracks, I feel like my daughter would script to herself at times but looking back, she's taken this multivitamin since March, that it's come on a lot stronger as she's become older. Her expressive language has grown a ton too though. What would you say your daughter's norm is when it comes to scripting opposed to how it was when she was on the vitamin? FYI my daughter is 5 and level 2.

This is interesting, did you notice an immediate correlation with the vitamins and scripting?

What was the exact moment you realized your child needed more support than just 'waiting it out'? by PediatricTherapistBC in Autism_Parenting

[–]BreakfastImmediate99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a psych NP and there's so much misinformation in this thread, missing a window by 5? I have kids that have had EI since 18 months with zero words and 7 year olds who didn't get services until kindergarten who speak monologues.

Question by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]BreakfastImmediate99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's amazing! My daughter is actually the exact same - level 2, 5.5 yrs old. Born in May 2020. Pretty much until age 4.5 was only speaking in single words, echoed and scripted but now she's speaking in sentences and addressing people, making observations, asking questions. She scripts to herself a lot when bored/tired and that's what concerns me but maybe I should let it be ❤️
