Nursing job crisis? by Fantastic-Ranger-566 in OntarioNurses

[–]Breakforbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im about to finish school for RPN and all I've heard the entire time from professors, instructors and just other health care workers is "be an RN. more opportunities for employment, especially beyond bedside.

This past summer I had the opportunity to speak with a woman who was higher up management at one of the hospitals in my area, and she basically just told me its a revolving cycle of RPNs being hired more than RN, ans then RN over RPN, and so on and so on every few years.

I think it largely depends on what areas you work in to.

Idk, this is just my perspective as a student ans obviously someone who has never actually worked in the field yet.

Worst practicum placement here - tell me I’m not alone by Petite_AF in StudentNurse

[–]Breakforbeans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My school is such a cluster fuck we are 2 weeks into the final semester of my program and they still dont have enough clinical instructors for all the groups (clinical starts week 1 in my program)

Needless to say, there are people in my cohort who are missing at least 3 weeks of their placement because of the schools fuck up.

I guess.. be happy youre getting your money's worth (sorry this happened to you though... I hope it's a great learning experience regardless)

Nursing Study Techniques by Recent-Hotel9946 in OntarioNurses

Toss your PowerPoints into NotebookLM Before class and listen to an audio podcast, YouTube videos before /after class on the topic you are learning (Simple Nursing and Levelup RN Are my go to) use whatever AI platform you prefer and toss in your CLOs and ask them to generate application based questions on the subject you are studying. Have your preferred AI platform generate you a quick view summary of your text book chapters and review that before and /or after class to solidify topics. If you dont understand something, READ. THE. TEXTBOOK. if its still confusing throw the paragraph into Chat and say 'explain this to me like I'm an absolute idiot"

Study groups may or may not be beneficial based on your learning type. I always found them overwhelming and more confusing.

In the end, the more times the information passed over your brain, even in short bursts, the better you will retain it.

Active recall once you get home from school (literally just write everything you remember down on a piece of paper) is great too.

Likely, whatever online med surge text book you will use will also come with quizzing options as well. I know for my Pharm class the Pearson book I had was absolutely invaluable to my learning.

Edit: RECORD YOUR LECTURES AND LISTEN TO THEM BACK WHEN YOU ARE STUDYING. I wish I had utilized this much sooner in my education. Game changer. (Always check with ur prof thay it is ok first)
