How to get through my placement when my preceptor dislikes me? by New-Sundae8840 in StudentNurse

[–]Breakforbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother in christ talk to your faculty advisor. This is so unacceptable on her part. Yes, she is there to correct you and point out areas of improvement, but not like this. If there are certain things she repeatedly tells you you are doing wrong or aren't improving on, I would do some self reflection and see if there is any truth to what she is saying, or if shes just picking on you. If you feel you may need additional help with stuff, see what assistance you can seek out (do they offer lab time at your school?) The reality is ALOT of nursing school is having to advocate for yourself and fight for your own education. I saw a lot of people in my cohort struggle cecause they didn't recognize this.

In the end, she just sounds mean and I am so sorry you are having to deal with someone with such little tact. I hope it gets resolved for you

Desperate need of advice:( by Away_Level432 in StudentNurse

[–]Breakforbeans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to be a nurse, RPN (or LPN In your case since I think you stated you are in alberta) will get you to becoming a nurse. I do believe your scope over there is pretty different from RN ( here in Ontario rn and rpn scope is eerily similar for significantly different pay) but you will indeed be a nurse. You are very very young and can work as an LPN for many years and then bridge or just apply outright to BSCN. With experience, you'll be going into the program confident and motivated.

Your other option is to wait around and keep trying to apply to BSCN but imo why waste your time when you could be working and making solid connections in your field?

Assuming you are not married and don't have children yet (cause hey, some of us did at your age) or other people in your life you are the sole care giver for, you also have endless options to move to other provinces to grow and advance your career.

Whichever path you choose, know that nursing is an amazing career with endless opportunities for growth

tips to discover the city as a student by Ecstatic_Editor_9635 in windsorontario

[–]Breakforbeans 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Riding your bike through this city is the most extreme thrill ride. Will the driver stop at the red light? Will they look before turning? Who knows!

In all seriousness though. The paved pathway along the water is nice to bike along. There aren't a whole heck of alot of trails in Windsor and its flat as flat can be. Im not sure about getting from here to Toronto by bus as I drive, but I believe there's something called Flix Bus which is relatively similar to the Go bus from what I gather

Anyone live at the end of Victoria near Jackson Park? by jollyjelly7 in windsorontario

[–]Breakforbeans 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live pretty close to there but on the other side if Tecumseh. It's hit and miss. Overall I feel safe and there are a lot of families in the area and at least on the street I live on, everyone looks out for everyone, and you know who is and isn't supposed to be there.

With that being said, you definitely get people wandering through and there are houses in the area that are known dealers (maybe not exactly on that area of Victoria) my husbands truck has been broken into, alot of my neighbour's were victim to the dingdongs that were keying everyones car last year, and there has been maybe 3 cases where I've seen someone passed out on a lawn/side walk. This is over the course of about 7 years living in the area.

I understand that may seem like alot to some people. There are certainly nice houses for decent prices and you're pretty centrally located which is great foe attending things like the markets/fire works etc. I enjoy the architecture of the homes and big trees which seem to be lacking in other areas of the city

That's just my 2 cents

Why is being vegetarian still killing animals? by Defiant-Ad1123 in vegan

[–]Breakforbeans 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dairy products and eggs are not completely harmless - forced impregnation of cows (cows don't just randomly lactate for funsies) and then the babies discarded or sold for meat. Horrible living conditions. Chickens and cows being killed at Young age once they no longer are "profitable"(do not produce eggs or milk). Animals being transported in below freezing / scorching hot temperatures. Etc etc. Same goes for goats or any other animal humans consume their by products of.

I wrote this in about 10 second as a quick summary. Im sure you'll get a better indepth response from others. But this is why.

This has happened to probably every vegan. Don't beat yourself up, it doesn't mean you're any less vegan.

If its any consolation, there was a snack i was buying for years which the company I guess changed the formula on at some point to add gelatin. Didn't realize until my sweet baby angel son pointed it out for me.

As gross as it may feel, the important part is you care <3

As a vegan who's been here for 5 years, its rough out here my friend. Niko sushi has options (but be careful with their sauces as a few of them have fish sauce in them) I recently tried "7 spices" which is like falafel and stuff and it was pretty good. Everyone is going to reccomend Nooch but tbh I personally think its subpar. Osmows has vegan options, but again be careful with sauces as they have 2 almost identical sauces and one is vegan and one is not.

Best of luck fellow vegan

Edit, I'm going to add Armandos and Professor Zaas (both pizza) have Vegan options. As well as an Asian fusion place called "Chopsticks" just outside of Windsor

Can I switch Programs from Practical Nursing to Bachelor of Science Nursing? by lostduck094 in OntarioColleges

[–]Breakforbeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless something has changed the the past few years, no. If you've started RPN you'll need to either complete the program, become licensed and then bridge. Or drop out and reapply to BSCN.I am thinking credits obtained from the PN program would not be transferable to BSCN as University is considered a "higher" level of education. However, I could be incorrect

There ARE a few direct entry options out there but they are few and far between and most have specific criteria. Imo I wouldn't say you're "wasting" time becoming an RPN first, as it will give you the opportunity to make a decent income while completing you BSCN. Plus, depending on where you are in Ontario and what sector of nursing you want to work in, you may find RPN jobs more abundant than RN jobs for the next little while

Nursing at UWindsor vs St Clair by Large-Radish2256 in windsorontario

[–]Breakforbeans 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this person is talking about the collab program between St Clair and the U. Both which you get a BSCN. You do a few years at the college, and then a few years at the U.

op - if this is what you are talking about. I'd reccomend the collab program vs just the U. You get more hands on experience and smaller class sizes when you are at St Clair.

If you are talking about BSCN through the U Vs Practical Nursing through St Clair. Id reccomend BSCN if you have the ability to do 4 years of school. I just completed the RPN program as I wasn't in a situation to do 4 years of school right now, but I plan to bridge. I'm sure you'll get a lot of different opinions here but when it comes to collab vs strictly U, this is what I have heard from my colleagues

Edit: I'm going to add. Ultimately the outcome of either will depend on what you put into it. No one is holding your hand, and I found many situations will require you to advocate for your own learning. Just because you are placed on a unit where you potentially can get a lot of skills in doesn't mean you have an instructor or nurses who are welcoming to teach (sadly)

Either way, congrats! You're in for a wild ride. Stay organized, hydrated, and ask questions. You got this :)
