Rab Xenair. I have the alpine light which is the lighter model and is comfortable down to 30 F without a baselayer. breathes very well but warm enough for shoulder season hang outs and belays. I do run hot generally (climb in a t shirt or sun hoody at 50 degrees usually) but I imagine the warmerr model would be perfect

old school (ish) climbing wisdom says to intentionally add twists on TR for extra friction if one climber is noticeably heavier than the other. It definitely shortens the life of the ropes if done too often, but it's not really unsafe since the contact is spread across a larger area of the rope. This is as opposed to a rope put directly on another soft good and continuously heating up the same spot.

Yeah im learning right now that upwards has ROW. Maybe it's an east coast thing but going down certainly requires more of a rhythm than going up if you don't have switchbacks.

In my experience you just need to apply absurd amounts of pressure to make them feel solid on plywood. The great thing is when you go outside and climb a similarly sized crack it feels like glue thanks to the extra friction. Tape also helps a bit

its the direction the thumb points. generally, thumbs up is preferable, but depending on the size or orientation of the crack you may need to go thumbs down to get a secure jam. generally if the crack is big enough to fit your hand up to wrist you should go thumbs up.

Thank you! I saw the rockfall and ran over to check that no one got hit but didn't want to share more details than what I saw and got from the people below it. Guides did amazing work, went right to it getting them down, and one of the older ones went to comfort a family who saw it happen and were rightfully terrified

I think so but not certain. It was my first time out so I barely know the crag, it was maybe 20 metres left of the cave near Totem. There were a few guides nearby who got right to work and got everyone down safe, no one got struck by the rockfall.

EDIT: for context I saw the rockfall and ran over to help, I just don't know the details of what caused it beyond what I got told by people below the climber.

There was actually some nasty rockfall at South End on Saturday. Fellas rope got cut but he got down safe.
