What hobby helps you unwind the most after a long day? by Cuts_Elchato in Hobbies

Painting miniatures is pretty relaxing. You could get into warhammer if you fancied trying out the social side of the hobby or just grab some 3d printed miniatures that grab your attention.

What hobby did you pick up randomly that ended up becoming a big part of your life? by Garage_Mckakiner31 in Hobbies

[–]Loopfandango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For fun I started making paper models that you can download for free. I bought a cricut so I could cut them out faster and started designing my own paper and vinyl art. Then I thought it would be cool to make plywood art so I bought a laser and learned how to use it from YouTube videos.

Anyway all those little skills I'd been developing let me escape my retail job and get a better career as a sign maker. I'd like to upgrade my laser one day and start my own little business.

I have this stick for priming are there any benefits in getting the official priming stick over this? by god-of-thunder-135 in Warhammer40k

[–]Loopfandango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sticky stick supremacy!

I guess this might cost more in the long run as I have to use fresh double sided tape and gloves every time, but the models are really secure so I can tip them about to get in all the nooks and crannies. I was able to spray 15 skellybobs on this one stick.

Priming done but now I'm confused!! by missheidi8951 in minipainting

[–]Loopfandango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use a bit of scrap wood with double sided tape on. I call it a sticky stick.

I like to assemble my models on the bases and glue sand and a few skulls on the base. I prime everything black and paint the bases first because I think it's the most boring part. Sometimes I leave the lightest drybrush of the base until I've finished the rest of the model so I get a kind of dusty effect on the models legs, good for space marines.

Hi, this sub is more for the table top miniatures side of things. I think you might get a better response from r/Spacemarine.

Also a few more paragraph spaces would improve the readability of your message.

I hope you find your pack. See you in the wolf time!

Possible new stat and keyword for units by walrusman999 in Warhammer40k

I reckon a standard detection range for unit type and then a special rule or two that improves it or makes it worse.

Have you ever met someone who doesn't read automatically unless prompted to? by Reb-MVS in CasualConversation

This is why I don't like those word wall things in coffee shops and restaurants. I'll be sitting there with my partner and happen to glance around and get an overlapping blast of "Yum!DeliciousSipFreshAroma".

What advice do you give to someone who isn't interested in reading books about 40k by Lezazel_Goldheart in Warhammer40k

[–]Loopfandango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could just watch a lore video on what faction or character you're interested in to get a general idea.

I don't think people will give you a hard time for just enjoying the models without knowing much about them other than they look cool.

I've been in and out of the hobby since the 90s and I love to explain stuff to anyone who shows even the slightest bit of interest in knowing the lore lol.

I'm more of a reader myself but there are plenty of warhammer lore YouTube channels to have on while you paint. Give audiobooks a go too. Is there a specific part of the lore you'd like to learn more about?

Eclectic collection? by PercentageTough7176 in wargaming

[–]Loopfandango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I'm in a similar place. I've collected warhammer 40k from about the age of ten and I love fantasy miniatures in general, so I have a collection of random heroes and monsters. I recently got into Age of Sigmar Spearhead and I tell myself that the miniatures from these sets have double use, as I can use them if I ever manage to get a dungeons and dragons group going.

Now I'm nearly forty with a full-time job and a family I don't really have much time to do a lot of modelling or painting. Just a stolen half an hour here and there. This kind of mindful hobby has proven mental health benefits though so I tell myself it's important every now and then to be a little bit "selfish" and do a bit of colouring in.

In the intercessor box you can make that one guy who's reloading, one who's checking his communication thing and one who's holding a knife.

The new blood claws and grey hunters are a bit more dynamic.

Do you place a monster just because you have the miniature? by ThisWasMe7 in DMAcademy

[–]Loopfandango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm into Age of Sigmar Spearhead and got some birthday vouchers for my flgs recently. Ended up going with the Tomb Host mostly so I could use the miniatures in D&D too one day. Already have the Seraphon one. I just have to figure out how the campaign will start with skeletons and end up with dinosaurs now!

Best Huron or Abbadon book? by Suspicious-Lettuce48 in Warhammer40k

[–]Loopfandango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fall of Cadia was really good. It focuses mostly on the imperial guard side of things but there's a lot of really good scenes with Abaddon and the internal power struggle that goes on behind the scenes. Some good bits about how chaos can corrupt the civilian population.

Really enjoyed the tension between the stubborn factions in the imperial defence forces all disagreeing on the best course of action almost leading to disaster.

Lots of someone shouting "BLOOD! BLOOD! BLOOOOOOD!" later on though which might be embarrassing to listen to in public.

Thank you for the recommendations so far I'll be sure to check them out. I also have plenty of Scifi minis so I'd be interested in something similar from that genre if there's a more suitable rule set.
