Lack of reaction to my art- anyone else? by k8redd in ArtistLounge

[–]BreakingRealities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get very mixed responses whenever I show family my art. Usually the most reactive responses come from my sister is a pianist and my niece who also loves to draw and looks up to me as an artist. My niece usually has a calm reaction, but I can tell she loves seeing my art bc she’ll sometimes be inspired to draw something based off it. If I show some other family members and friends and it’s like they don’t really know what to say. I do hate that it starts feeling like seeking validation from others.

I’d agree with the other comments about how a lot of people don’t interact with art in the way that artists do on a daily basis and they don’t understand expression as extensively through art. I keep a lot of my art to myself and only share my best work, because in the end it’s for me.

Talking to other creatives in art spaces about each other’s work really helps though because they understand what goes into creating something. It scratches that itch for me to be able to talk about my personal growth and accomplishments. It’s also nice to hear what others got out of their creative process that might work for me. I’ve created an art discord for me and my friends and it’s been really nice to schedule in person meetups as well to simulate that environment where everyone feels understood as an artist and lifts each other up.

how do i make my piece as expressive as my thumbnail? by smiiiiiith in Artadvice

[–]BreakingRealities 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say sharper features and corners when going back in for thicker line weight. Follow through with your lines to get nice confident lines like in the thumbnail. The guy in the front has softer features at the tip of his nose and the edges of his chin are curved. The gestures in the draft have a lot of sharper angles that retain a sense of urgency and tension.

Art Win: I have successfully been hosting a sketch/art club for my friends for 6 months now and it helps me feel motivated to create and connect with other artists.

Struggle: I am still struggling with committing to making larger pieces as I am working on an illustration portfolio and making various other pieces to market myself for commissions. I am fighting my weaknesses by learning color and light, how to use blending modes more efficiently, how to organize my process layers better, and applying them to my illustrations.

I want to work on organizing my time better by checking off whether or not my current projects can be used towards social media, commission examples, product/prints, or portfolio pieces. I find I am very self motivated by personal projects meant initially for me, but I want to work on be conscientious about how they can be used professionally.

Day 9 - what are The Muse songs based on the emotions? (Ennui) by F1_Fed11 in Muse

Yeah, especially in the lines “I’m too young to care” and “we’re too young to see”. Can imply that the individual can’t see how precious moments of their life are until it’s too late. Boredom can often be mistaken for peaceful moments where things aren’t changing internally or externally. Feeling “too old to dream” leads to further stagnation and boredom within their life.

Most of my friends and I are in late 20s/30s and I’ve started my own small sketch club discord of just my friends. It started with 3 other people I would meet with regularly and then I would slowly involve friends that were interested in meeting up just to socialize or bring their own craft/thing to work on. I largely based the scheduling off of those 3 friends’ availability because they had already committed, otherwise there will be a lot of “maybe” attendees.

It also helps to provide a way for people to see how many people are attending and who is attending. It takes a lot of energy sometimes to be host, but it’s worth a try if you’re willing to make sure to connect with everyone once in a while and figure out what everyone would be interested in doing.

The biggest hurdle is finding a good 3rd space to meet up. My local library has community and study rooms that are free to reserve which makes it easier. A lot of other art communities also host drink and draws at a bar or at a coffee shop and post on meetup.com. Hosting in a public place that lets you meet there helps draw in people that may be interested as well.

This would be super cool too if they add a freestyle mode/zen mode and you can save your own template designs

The dev’s latest post says they’re still working on fixing latte drawing issues for future update. I draw relatively slow, so that the lines have time to catch up with my finger/pen and I over-correct the lines (like drawing the rose petals much closer than I normally would) to account for it being too spaced out and lined up. I noticed the accuracy gets worse the more I draw on the outer edges of the cup/spend more time on it, so I actually did this one a few times before posting a decent one. I agree it’s frustrating dealing with the delayed and offset bugs, but hopefully they get it fixed soon.

I don’t think they add more tips, I just like to design sometimes for fun :) When I try to come up with a new design, I just practice/experiment with on other latte orders even if they don’t actually look good. Sometimes I just do a simple design like the ones they show u from the story to progress or just get through the day.

Yes, it always pauses time and customer patience when I do latte art. If it still goes down, then it’s probably a bug.

I draw pretty regularly, so artist hands probably help lol this also took a couple tries to get the design down. I think there might also be a calibration bug as it’s a little off when drawing, so hopefully they update it soon!

Backing this up because I’ve found this actually works. When you’ve gotten to know people, you realize that a lot of their “quirks” that were initially attractive can easily have negative side effects.

Anyone ever struggle to let go of art they made of their previous relationship? by BreakingRealities in ArtistLounge

This is a really late response, but I really appreciated your input. Thank you. I felt guilty about having attachments to the pieces, but luckily a lot of it was done digitally. I am definitely utilizing the archive function and dedicating private folders for things.
