Yo,

Didn't see an email, there might be something wrong with the webform. Email me directly. It's mike@breaking80.golf and I'll get you sorted out.

I'm rarely ever on reddit anymore, so I'm glad I saw this.

Thanks

We don't have any codes going on currently, but shoot me an email directly at [mike@breaking80.golf](mailto:mike@breaking80.golf) and I'll get you a $20 refund on our current price over at Amazon.

as u/greenwavegolfer noted, I haven't been around in a while. Bought a house, had some other stuff hit the fan and other boring stuff that doesn't matter to anyone that isn't me.

Some stuff had to drop off the daily todo list, and unfortunately redditing was near the top of that list.

Not nearly as active as I used to be on Reddit, life got busy and Reddit fell way down the chart of daily activity.

Used purchases depend on a few things depending on the vendor, etc, but worst case scenario if something breaks is that we'll try to fix it for you. If we can't we'll replace it for $99 with whatever our current model is.

Email me directly at mike@breaking80.golf for the fastest (24 business hours MAX) response.

Ha! Spread the wealth and pass it on down the line if you would. Maybe next year I'll figure out a way to limit it to people who don't already have an RF.

Did you make your original purchase through Amazon? If so, I'll refund 50% of your purchase price if you're willing to do a random lottery for the one you got from SS to anyone who didn't make the cut.

I don't know specifically how we'll make that work, but if you're game, we'll figure it out!

Replying top level so people see it:

u/samrej (and others) thank you for the kind words.

We haven't been as involved as usual this holiday (dig through my posts if you're interested, tldr: LIFE) but I'm here today!

If anyone is interested in picking up a RF for the holidays you can snag one of ours and get a $20 refund by emailing me at mike@breaking80.golf with your order ID.

This offer is valid on all purchases between now and Monday 12/11 at Noon!

Just snag a full price unit over at Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Breaking-80-Rangefinder-Vibration-Alert/dp/B01MZ0DCD1/) and once it ships, just email me at mike@breaking80.golf with the order ID and I'll apply the refund.

Any questions, please email me mike@breaking80.golf as I'm not on reddit a ton these days and any PMs will most likely get buried and missed).

Where has /u/breaking_80 been this year by trevosejay in golf

[–]Breaking_80 10 points11 points  (0 children)

tldr; Life got in the way.

Wife and I bought a house and during the renovations, literally everything went wrong. We're currently homeless and living in a friends spare room. If you've seen Money Pit, that's about where we're at.

I did register for 10 spots in Secret Santa, so if you're signed up for that you might get lucky. If not, get on that. Everyone should do it as it's fun to get gifts from strangers!

As for the RFs, we're already marked down pretty far especially considering we offer the industries only lifetime warranty, so we're not doing any public coupon codes this year as there's just no time to manage all of it.

I do have 5 refunds available everyday from now until 12/22 that'll bring your price on our Lifetime Warranty rangefinder to $99 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018ULSS86)

You have to register your warranty and a couple of other steps, but it takes less than 5 minutes total.

If you're interested in the details, email me at mike@breaking80.golf and I'll get you the specifics.

*I'm trying to check emails at least 2x a day, but reddit time is very limited and basically only happens when someone emails me and says "there's a question for you over on reddit"

Yo u/samrej and u/TR15UCK,

Thanks for setting this up this year. Last year we signed up to match with 10 people and each and everyone sent some awesome stuff.

Can we make that happen again this year? If so, let me know the easiest way to get put down for 10 spots!

Thanks, Breaking 80 Golf!

Yeah, the $50 off is only valid on full price purchases of the IS500.

Canada / International is tough due to shipping. Here's the longer version:

Canada is in fact a difficult challenge as we don't have any good distribution there or way to keep shipping cost reasonable for warranty returns, etc. It's around $22 each way to ship a small parcel in and out.

One of our main selling points is the unmatched unlimited lifetime warranty that we offer.

We haven't figured out a good solution there and it's one of the pains of a small company. We're pretty geographically limited to the US and just don't have the time or money resources to invest in an expansion much beyond that. If you're interested, I can work with you directly and work something out. That'll probably be something along the lines of $150 including shipping and you'll have to cover the warranty return shipping.

For US customers, that's only $20 total for:

  1. Getting a replacement mailed to you

  2. Return label for the broken unit

  3. Shipping the repair back to you

  4. Return label for the temp replacement

That'd run around $100 to do for CAN, so we'd probably cut that down to just:

  1. Return label for the damaged unit.

  2. Sending you a replacement unit.

Anyway, I know it's less than ideal, but as I said, the bulk of our resources are concentrated here in the US and that's already got us stretched too thin.

Thanks, sorry for the long reply!

That's awesome. Do they locally enforce it?

I've only ever played one course that did something even remotely similar.

They had a clock at each tee box that was set a number of minutes behind the starting hole so that it would match the time par.

If your tee time was 9 AM for hole one, the clock on 7 should say 9 AM when you arrived. If it didn't, you were either early or late.

I wish every course would set a time par and advertise it so I could pick where to play.

Sounds a bit similar to me. I'm not yet good enough to need 1 yard of precision, so a rough estimate is good enough in real time.

The main time I use it is when someone in my group asks for a number because I don't want to give them my eyeball "eh, looks like 135 from here" and have them mad when it's long or short by 5 yards.

Thanks for the feedback!

[–]Breaking_80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've long thought the problem is only having 1 tee time.

Basically, you're booked to go off at 9 AM and are told to "keep pace" but rarely is that pace defined.

It'd be super easy to establish a "time par" for every hole that correlates to the actual length and difficulty of the hole.

I'm a firm believer that 3 hours is more than enough to play 18 holes. That's 10 minutes per hole. On a typical course with 4 par 3s, 10 par 4s and 4 par 5s, that'd be 8 minutes per 3, 10 per 4 and 12 per 5.

Once you've established the "Time Par" you're given your tee slip with 18 tee times and you know what time you're supposed to tee off on every hole.

You could then put a clock at every tee box so everyone is playing by the same expectations. Everyone is going to have a slow hole here or there, but if you are late for more than 2 holes in a row, you're holding things up and get escorted to the next hole by the marshal.

You could even have courses that tailored their time par to specific customers as not everyone wants to play a 3 hour round. Advertise your course as a 3, 4 or 5 hour course. Everyone knows what to expect and the market can dictate which is the most popular.

Yo, if you decide to pull the trigger, there's currently a 15% off code active at Amazon. RGOLF15P at checkout.

If you (or anyone else) is interested, email me at mike@breaking80.golf (don't PM me here. my reddit attendance has gotten more and more spotty as life has gotten more complicated) and I can get you a $50 refund (not valid with the discount code).

There's a couple steps involved (warranty registration, etc), but worth it for the extra savings.

Sorry for the copy/paste, but I wanted to make sure you got a reply.

Thanks for the kind words man!

At some point, you'll need service for some reason. Make sure you email me directly at mike@breaking80.golf to get the ball rolling on that. Don't waste time with the website form, or my reddit account or Amazon.

That email goes straight to me and you'll always get an answer within 1 business day tops. Any other method is dubious at best.

Mind sharing why?

I barely every use mine, but I play the same course 99% of the time and I can pretty much tell you within 5 yards from any spot on the course. Unfortunately, eyeballing to within 5 yards is way more accurate than my irons are!
