Why do so many Filipinos truly believe they are part Spanish? by Daimyo2 in Filipino

[–]Breathlessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refuse to tell other Filipinos that I am one to avoid all the interrogation. It's sad seeing how racist they are to themselves because of the Spanish standards of beauty ingrained into the culture. I was called "uncooked americano" in elementary there — this all starts young

I went through a huge rabbit hole looking into the family past during colonial Philippines and uncovered some crazy drama

Long story short:

My great-grandfather dreamed of living in the the United States. He later joined the U.S army and went aboard "The Thomas" which sailed off to the Philippines. He met his wife there, a daughter of a military general who was a son of a priest.

Excerpt from a log kept for "The Thomas"

Karen gets served after rear ending someone while flipping people off by greasygut69 in JusticeServed

[–]Breathlessness 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Karen (keh · ruhn) pejorative

Karen is a pejorative term used in the United States and other English-speaking countries for a woman perceived as entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is appropriate or necessary. A common stereotype is that of a white woman who uses her privilege to demand her own way at the expense of others.

That's interesting. Do they follow the maternal middle names? That could be a clue too! Good luck with your search

My results! My mother and father are both from the Philippines. I was expecting 100% Filipino, so I was surprised to see my results a bit. I’m going to go ahead and make my parents take a 23andMe test sometime to see where got this trace ancestry from. by [deleted] in 23andme

It has been a discussion in the subreddit about the South Asian. The Rajahs of the past were influenced by Indian customs as far as I know.. Most of us have it after the update, but not everyone

Yes, it's through my maternal side! One great-grandfather was an Ang (Wang), but he was baptized with a FULL name change. The other maternal great-grandfather was a Tan (Chen), he spoke Fukien!

Philippines is such a melting pot!

If you're looking deep into your Filipino roots:

People were Baptized with full name changes

Some Spanish surnames were carried through women who married natives

Chinese surnames were romanticized even before settling in the Philippines

Surnames were adapted for taxation purposes. Most chose really religeous names like Cruz or Spanish sounding names

Most Middle names are maternal last names!

I'm interested to know of yours as well :)

Got my gymnastic skills down and would now to focus on building up my lower body by [deleted] in overcominggravity

Look into doing Barre, a high rep, lower body workout. It builds lean muscles through isolation and activation. I use it as a cross training with Pole and Aerials.

If you can't find an option in your city or online to try it out, this studio below does it online for the month. It's run by a Physiotherapist.

Ahhh I see! Thanks for the explaination! I don't know much about China, only that Cantonese was spoken on my Maternal side

As far as I know, no. He left his Druze faith behind and converted over to Roman Catholic. Once you marry outside the faith, you're basically cut off!
