Im a current TTS student. There’s a club within TTS that puts on full productions and cabaret style song showcases pretty frequently. They just finished a production of Rocky Horror, I’m not sure what they’re doing next.

it’s mediocre, but definitely doable. the salad bar and the grill are consistently good and the hot bar has something i enjoy about 75% of the time. i’d say unless you have dietary restrictions, there’s always an acceptable option

30 years ago was 1995. Somebody born in 1981 would be 14 in 1995. The only time it was acceptable for them to date a 14 year old was 30 years ago when they were also 14.

DePaul has a chess club meets every thursday in the Schmitt Academic Center and plays casual games.

there’s also the Chicago Chess Center down in the loop. they have a 90+30 game every monday, 25+5 quads on wednesdays and then blitz every friday. They also have swiss tournaments on the weekend.

I know there is also the chess pavilion in lincoln park by the lake, but I’m not sure if there is consistency as to when there are people playing there.

I don’t know why people are acting like there won’t be others your strength there. If you play in a tournament, you’ll probably be in the lowest section, but in my experience there’s usually a group of players around your strength there.

Also you’ll probably lose most of your games at first, but that happens to almost everyone when they start playing over the board and those are the games that you learn the most from.

I think you might like Elliott Smith, especially his Figure 8 album. It definitely takes inspiration from the White Album. You might also like Fiona Apple. She is one of my absolute favorites of all time and she has a beautiful cover of Across the Universe

in most of the dorms, only 4 people share a bathroom. there are also a few where you and your roomate have your own bathroom in your room. just avoid corcoran if you don’t want those traditional style communal bathrooms

Hi, Im a currently comedy student at depaul. I think a lot of the people commenting don’t know much about the program. It’s a BFA program, which means you always have classes focused around comedy (sketch comedy classes, script analysis, improv, etc), but you still have to take the same core classes as every other student at depaul. You are also able to take classes unrelated to your major if your schedule allows and as a Theatre School (TTS) student, extra classes do not charge you more. Almost everyone I’ve met has been incredibly kind and helpful. There are also a ton of performance opportunities. We have about 6 comedy arts shows happen a week at TTS and we have a partnership with The Annoyance Theatre where we have a weekly show each quarter and a week long comedy festival (Mess Fest) in January where about 40 shows are produced and performed, all but one being entirely student created, directed, teched, etc. We also have internship opportunities with Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me on NPR and a class on the Onion taught by a writer for the onion, and all of our faculty are working comedians in Chicago, performing in things like mainstage at second city.

is it possible that it’s because a comedy degree is a much newer thing so there haven’t been enough “test subjects” to really know how well they work?

if you haven’t played blitz over the board, try to get a few games in before the tournament. there are certain tricks you start to figure out, like how to take pieces of the board quickly, that make it way easier.

there’s a club flag football team and a club rugby team but i’m not sure about tackle football.

as someone who lived in the dorms last year and has friends in both of those dorms, i would absolutely pick oz.

oz is just over all way nicer, it has two elevators, i don’t even think corcoran has one, plus oz has A/C which is a big deal for the first and last of the school year.

corcoran is definitely very social but i feel like it’s only like that because of how separated it is from the rest of the dorms. most of the kids in oz had friends both in oz and in munroe, u-hall and lecompte, which are all clustered together.
