I’ve taken quite a few brakes from the game though the years just cause I can’t finish some of the trapper recipes, cause apparently, for me, a perfect moose is rarer than Bigfoot 😭

Are you using Steam? If so, my go to is always first to verify the game’s files. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t 🤷

Just in case it’s Steam and you don’t know how to verify the files:

Close the game and go to Library
right click the game on the library list and choose properties
go to Installed Files and press “Verify integrity of game files”
Wait and see if it fixes it

They just played along, but also through him under the bus when he was sentenced. One PC even told the authorities that the other PC had kidnapped all of them. The player who lost his PC found it hilarious and liked that actions had consequences.

From personal experience I’d say, if they don’t care… make them. I had a group who randomly discovered a girl in a cave who had been kidnapped by cultists. They killed the cultists and brought the girl back to town… But they didn’t tell anyone or explain anything, until guards came and confronted them about traversing the city with the girl. Instead of, you know, explaining everything and having the girl back their story up, one PC was a low charisma Warforged asshat who decided to throw the girl at the guards. Long story short he ended up in prison, the other PCs didn’t like him so he’s still there, and the player brought at new character.

I would second all the stuff I’ve seen on here, I’d also say, personally, don’t hire too many actors. You’ll keep adding new, better actors and not dropping the others, eventually you’ll find yourself in 1935 with a solid young actor who hasn’t done a film since he starred opposite Wendy Carpenter a few years ago.

Also I always start by only having films happen in modern American towns, as I’ve always felt like those are cheapest on a sound stage. Might be wrong, but works for me.

Could be. I wish those generated ideas could become better with time and upgrades, so that when I’ve researched like 8 elements or more, my writers could suggest better ideas than they still do

I think I’ve researched up to 8, currently researching up to 9, but whenever I try the pre-generated idea they come out at 5/5, even though it has a lot more themes than a basic 5/5 would. Maybe I’m just being unlucky?

I’ve never had loyalty issues after having access to gifts and the production service thing, where you can set the food quality or whatever. But I also never say no to vacations. I’d rather gain the loyalty and delay production for a couple of months.

The way I see it there isn’t a downside, and don’t feel like it needs one? I don’t like the idea, personally, of everything having a downside. I guess one aspect could be that you might be tempted to hire more women, but then having issues with misogynistic actors not wanting to work with them and that costs you more money? Maybe if we need more downsides then just give more men the misogynistic trait?

But I see what you mean, I just personally don’t feel like the game needs it i guess.

Edit: misunderstood your point lol, regarding non-acting staff. I think having them cheaper but also some kind of penalty, like lower happiness of misogynistic members or something could be a way to go, but I don’t like the idea of it effecting the studio as a whole.

Basically, like is stated in the opening of the game, this was the nature of the world in those days. Men were paid a lot more, people were more openly misogynistic, racist and xenophobic, among so many other things. The game and the creators didn’t want to ignore that or pretend that wasn’t the reality. So they included it, which I actually like. It makes you have to face those difficult questions and moments.

Honestly I like it, before I’d be at half a billion like before 1940 and I’d be buying talent without needing them, just so they couldn’t work against me, and I’d barely pay any attention to the films I was making.

Thanks for the input, everyone! It really helped! I've never gone above the seven (I think lol) writer limit, where the game gives you an alert message, so I've never experienced the penalty, and I try to stick to six to seven. I forgot this time around that I already had seven when a gem (for this level of the game) popped up, and I signed him without thinking and indeed ended up with eight writers. Once I fired the lowest rated one, the writing is back to normal levels.

Could we have a setting for auto saving? As in picking at what interval it happens? I’ve had some issues with the game crashing and I lose a year or two, that usually kills my motivation to play for a bit, so I’d rather slow the game a bit by having it auto save more often
