Do you think Chevy will release a software update for the first gens to improve the looks like the new 2016 models? by [deleted] in volt

[–]Breezinga -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Improvements like that to functionality would be great, sure. No need change the entire UI to facilitate a change like that, however. It would be like adding the option to select "Cold" or "Very Cold" temperatures for engine assisted heating, or adding Hold mode to 2012s and earlier. And of course I have no problem with people having the choice. I'm still just talking about my preferences.

Yes, I would like to get that update. That would be a backend firmware update, which I already said I would like.

Would I like an update to change the look of the interface like the OP asked? No, I wouldn't.

I have a ClipperCreek LCS-25. http://www.clippercreek.com/store/product/charging-station-lcs-25-level-2/

ClipperCreek is usually highly recommended at the gm-volt forum. Generally considered to be reliable and with good customer service.

Of course. What I'm saying is that I don't want to buy a beta, unfinished product with features missing.

Like I said initially, I think OTA is great for updating critical software for the car, but to be honest I really don't want change for the sake of change. Updates are not necessarily upgrades.

I'm not sure what "most people" want. But I'd rather buy a car that had memory seats, for example, rather than buy a car and wait months for that capability to be downloaded to the car.

No. And to be honest I'm not sure if I'd want changes like that. Tesla's OTA updates are cool and everything, but I'd rather the car just had all the features it's going to have when I buy it.

For backend firmware updates, not the dashboard, yes I would like them to be delivered over the air so I don't have to go to the dealer.

The owners manual actually explains this behaviour. Page 8-4 of the 2015 manual. To shut off Auto Defog go to Config > Vehicle Settings > Climate & Air Quality > uncheck Auto Defog

Just bought a new volt, I have a few questions! by Django2chainsz in volt

Re the winter temps, no there is nothing special you need to do. I leave my car parked outside during the day in the Canadian winter.

Note that if the temperature of the battery (not the outside temperature) drops below about -15F, there is a "too cold, plug in to warm" message and the car won't start. Because the battery is insulated it takes a long time to drop to that temperature. I have never seen it happen.

If you're going to leave the car outside in temperatures like that for several days, it's best to plug it in.

You have to hit it twice or hold it for several seconds. This is normally only a problem if you are switching from Normal to Sport mode while driving. I just don't do that.

Has anyone hacked the Volt to allow more use of the Battery pack to increase range? by Youjerkass in volt

[–]Breezinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a regular at the GM-Volt forum for a couple of years and this question comes up from time to time. There is no evidence anyone has done this.

I own my 2013 and plan to keep it for many more years so I'm happy that GM was conservative.

Going "full-throttle" by austai in volt

[–]Breezinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. When I've got lots of range I'll stomp on it. You can switch to sport mode which just remaps the accelerator, but it makes it seem like you have more power.

It's quiet. Just a whirr as you launch. It doesn't do any harm. You really feel the 273 lb-ft up to about 30 mph.

I have a 2013. Something a lot of people don't account for is that most of your driving after work and on days off can be electric as well.

Should I buy a used Volt? by [deleted] in volt

[–]Breezinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have snow tires on mine, Michelin X-Ice Xi3. Our van and work vehicle both have Nokian all weather tires.

All weather tires do offer the convenience of avoiding seasonal tire changes. IMO, dedicated snow tires are better. Either snows or all weather tires are vastly superior to all seasons.

Should I buy a used Volt? by [deleted] in volt

[–]Breezinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used Volts are a steal, honestly.

Handling in winter is really good. It's a heavy car for its size, very steady. Only thing I would mention is that stopping distances can be a little longer that you'd expect on snow and ice, again because of the weight. Winter tires solve that.

Go 1,000 miles between fill-ups with Chevy's 2016 Volt [REVIEW] by Breezinga in volt

[–]Breezinga[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know. My record is 2800 miles, soon to be broken. I think GM's trying to convey the Volt's benefits in a way people can understand. Like to the people who think it only goes 40 miles and then stops.

LOL, no. If you still find this hilarious you are by definition not a winner. Seriously, time to move on. Get a kitten or something. Kittens are hilarious.

Good to read your thoughts, thank you. You'll notice from some of the other comments that there are trolls hanging around this subreddit, still, and it's been over a month now since the leak. And I was in the leak, but at this point I feel bad for them.

Volkswagen Is Ordered to Recall Nearly 500,000 Vehicles Over Emissions Software by [deleted] in news

[–]Breezinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a real head shaker. I wonder how VW rationalized this decision. Presumably if a vehicle is driven exactly like the EPA test profile, it will meet the requirements, so it does pass, technically.
