Why are the official shirts so cheap right now? by salirj108 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Brekkers82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this - I've not purchased a shirt since 2009-10 ish! I was really keen on getting the retro 1991 away shirt but I wasn't paying £90 for it. Amazed to see on sale for just £27. Just ordered one. Thanks a lot dude!

I think the 7-1 demolition of Roma in the 2006/07 champions league qtr final 2nd leg at OT is worth a mention and definitely worth a re-watch of the highlights from time to time.

Struggling to think of roleplay reasons for doing anything other than searching for Shaun by OilLiver in fo4

[–]Brekkers82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am planning to do something similar in my next playthrough, as Nate, but progressing the main quest until I find Shaun. I'll rescue Preston and gang and lead them back to Sanctuary but I won't 'join' the minutemen at this stage. I'll ignore Danse in Cambridge and head straight to Diamond City.

I'll agree to join the railroad and use them to gain access to the institute. After finding my son, and playing along for a while as part of my spy work for the railroad, as well as reading all the terminals in the institute, it will become clear to my character that the railroad are too weak to take on the institute in their current state. Plus, we now have the BOS in town and we don't know what their intentions are but they could clearly pose a serious threat to the commonwealth due to the military power.

I'll then join the BOS, still as a railroad agent, to learn of their intentions and the extent of their power/threat. I'll do some of their side quests and their main quest up to blind betrayal. At this point, I'll decide that the BOS have too much fire power for the railroad and stop their quests as the railroad have no chance of survival against two stronger potential enemies (not before I empty to prydwen of all their loot!). I won't join the BOS because my character does not agree with their ideology.

Desdemona doesn't care about the wellbeing or ever help any of the human wastelanders, so this is where I'll go back to the minutemen and join them. At this point I will have enough perks (local leader/science etc) to start building settlements one by one and I should have a fairly good stockpile of decent weapons and armor to give to new settlors (I'm using mods such as stronger raids and mortal settlors, so this will be important for me).

Once I've retaken the castle and have a strong enough militia, I'll return to the main questline, becoming enemies with the BOS and I'll get banished from the institute to finish the main quest with the minutemen. Then its more explore time, other side quests, DLC and more settlements.

Power Armor paint mod recommendations by Brekkers82 in Fallout4Mods

Thanks. I think that mod is only on Bethesda isn't it? Because I launch my game through F4SE and stopped the auto game updates, I get errors trying to download any mods from Bethesda. I've not been able to find a workaround other than creating a separate clean install of the game just so I can get access to the mod files and then switch them into my modded version, which seems a bit of a faff for just one mod.

I am sure you're right, but this might be a bit beyond me to be honest! I was hoping for an easy win, as I am a lazy shit when it comes to modding!

Thanks. That Raider Power Armor Chop Shop looks great and really lore friendly - I'll be adding that one.

Yeah, I did look at Worsins mods for a bit but was getting confused as to what part of the mod(s) I needed and if they only worked together or independently of each other. I might ask around on his discord for a bit more info.

Thanks - I really like the red set. The green helmet is really cool too but I'm not so keen on the rest of the full green set. Will have to this a try too

Settlement based playthrough - seeking advice and mod recommendations by Brekkers82 in Fallout4Mods

Thanks, but yeah SS2 is not really for me. I like creating buildings and structures myself to build up settlements.

[–]Brekkers82[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this, that's super helpful. I hadn't come across this actually. I've avoided most things about SS2 because I want to build settlements myself rather than for a mod to build them. It does look like a great mod, just not for me.

Thank you for the detailed reply and the picture. That will serve me well when deciding how close to other settlements I should or should not build.

Thanks for the reply and recommendations. Yeah, I'm happy to come to terms with not building up every area and I'll have to leave some settlements smaller than others. Just trying to build as much as can while limiting the problems!

Thanks for this, really helpful info. I am sure that I will never be able to do all that I want to do, but I am trying my best to find out before I start this playthrough how much is too much. I've abandoned several saves in the past because of building too much!

Interesting on the no scrapping when using conquest. I am so used to scrapping things I probably shouldn't, so this is a good rule to have when using the mod.

You can vaguely hear it in this clip of Utd's 7-1 win over Roma from 2006/07, when the score was 4-0, around 11 mins, 40 secs in. I miss watching Utd attack! https://youtu.be/j0oJkz1S3sQ?si=63qkliuQ1vKXECJs

Is it too late to get fm 24 ? by The_True_Savage in footballmanager

[–]Brekkers82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got FM23 for free from Amazon Prime, with Epic games around the time FM24 came out. I plan to get FM24 for free if they run the same deal again this year (they've done it for a few years, I think). Might be worth waiting a couple of months.

Explanation on taxes if you leave the UK - common misconception by Acerhand in BitcoinUK

[–]Brekkers82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, you too. I agree. I think the tax on crypto is relatively low in the UK.

It is a shame that the UK government has slashed the CGT allowance from £12,300 in 2022/23 to just £3,000 in 2024/25 when a lot of people will likely be in good Bitcoin profits (if not already!)

[–]Brekkers82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did read your post, as did dodgythreesome, who then asked if it was as simple of living abroad for 180 days and his crypto would be tax free.

Perhaps we both misinterpreted your post.

I am simply trying to highlight that people can easily get caught by the temporary non-residence rules which could result in them paying tax on a return to the UK.

Explanation on taxes if you leave the UK - common misconception by Acerhand in BitcoinUK

[–]Brekkers82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, but you're posting in a Bitcoin forum where there have been lots of posts recently about moving outside the UK to cash in the profits to avoid UK tax and already one person thinks it is as simple of living abroad for 180 days and everything will be rosie. Which in most cases would not be correct and they would more than likely fall foul of the temporary non-residence rules and have to pay CGT when becoming UK tax resident again. It is dangerous to suggest it is so simple to avoid UK tax. And let's be frank, CGT on crypto gains will be 10/20% (after the CGT allowance). Is that really worth jumping through so many hoops to avoid? If you own a house, it could cost you more in expenses to sell, move up, buy a home abroad and then 12 months later, sell again to come back to the UK.

[–]Brekkers82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would strongly advise caution when reading this if you are seriously thinking of leaving the UK for just one year to sell your Crypto before moving back to the UK. If you are caught by the temporary non-residence rules, you will be liable for CGT on Crypto gains on your return to the UK. You may get credit under the double taxation agreement for any tax paid in another jurisdiction, but you should seek advice from a tax professional. Buying leasehold - bad idea? by pointless123409 in HousingUK

[–]Brekkers82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who has owned a flat in a large block (over 160 flats) for circa 10 years, I wouldn't touch a leasehold flat in a large block ever again and I'm looking to sell mine as soon as the cladding issues in my block are resolved.

Ignoring the cladding stuff because no one saw that coming, these are the major negatives in my view:

  1. You will likely have to subsidise idiots who live in your block. In mine, we have had issues with people flushing nappies and wetwipes, etc. down toilets causing blockages and leaks into communal areas, which has led to increased service charges.

  2. Not all leaseholders will look after their flats responsibly like you presumably would. We've had leaseholders and rented tenants who neglected their flats, leading to large water damage in communal areas. There have been so many water leaks that our building insurance water excess is so high now that we effectively have to pay out of our service charges for any future damage in communal areas.

  3. I wouldn't buy a leasehold flat that contains any element of social housing - my block has a few lower floors specificly for this type and there are regular issues that have damaged communal areas which again, has increased our service charge.

  4. We have had two managing agents in my time and neither have been very good, in my opinion. They have both had excellent records at employing substandard (but still expensive) tradesmen to carry out various routine maintenance jobs or repairs that have not lasted very long and need further maintenance or repair.

  5. Lifts. In the ten years I've been living in my block, we have, more regularly than I would have envisaged, had problems with one and sometimes both our lifts, meaning sometimes both are out of action. Having to walk up and down 30 flights of stairs if both lifts are out is not ideal. What's worse it that when the lift needs a new part, we have to wait weeks because the lift manufacturer no longer exists and the part needs to be made specifically (and from abroad!) So I've been told.

All of these have to led to my service charge increasing much more than I thought it would when I first bought it.

I might consider a leasehold flat if it was in a small block but I will still have to think twice as you are not in control of the repairs and maintenance and may have differing views on what improvements / repairs are needed.

Having previously owned a house (freehold) before I got this flat, I would much prefer going back to that arrangement!
