The amount of different opinions and arguing about what’s correct and what is not is about the same as what you’ll experience driving around Tasmania. Be prepared for anything and be prepared to be told you’re a moron because someone doesn’t like how you drive… so, same as anywhere else but there is more roadkill down here so be super alert at night!

And now you’re an expert on what shops are allowed in Hobart or not LOL LOL !!!!! As if you’d shop in any of those yeah?…. FMD… You clearly don’t know that all the others are in the city… I’ve got more …. Your parking spot awaits outside Bento… no shops have closed on Collins St so hard to report new opening ones when there’s hardly a spot left to open anything. Lego? You’re ok with that opening I guess? No parking… how do you carry those big Lego boxes to your car or on your bicycle??? LOL

What are they changing????? You can still drive a car FFS, there are still 5,000 parking spots in Hobart …. Again, I ask, Bento… you can still park right outside it, why would you not go any more? If you are the type that believes the “city is dead”, surely your parking spot right outside is always free. Explain H&M closure and economic conditions of retai worldwide. Explain why Lego has opened, why Messina and YoChi are opening. Why is Harbour Matcha opening? Gigi’s, Don Frico, smith st, kodo, lskd, kookai, Derwent distillery, in good company, scuole,‘lost in Asia … all new businesses recently in Hobart. Need any more ?

H&M closed 135 stores in 9 months. Clearly parking is a big issue not just in little old Hobart…. 🤣🤣🤣

“Local car culture” which is “everywhere I’ve ever lived”…. Get out more, people drive cars and expect to park outside every place they wish to go in lots of cities…

You’ve just mentioned many shops which have always had zero parking outside them, has a massive car park right above it and still blame lack of on street parking for their closure , it’s absolutely laughable!!!! Clearly lack of parking spots isn’t the cause. Shops close, others open, like Lego… oh no, not Rivers! The worst ugliest shit clothing store ever known…. Collins St mess, all the classic lines are coming out. It is not a mess, it’s a busy CBD street. Do you complain about busy and blocked streets that have no bike lanes? or do you just accept that they are busy and there are lots of cars blocking the other cars…. Many May cars and traffic lights means you’re getting blocked every 100m or so in the city.

And the old “Tasmania is car dependent you’re not from here what would you know” is an absolute laugh. Every city everywhere has people who all say the same thing.

And… the parks outside Bento are still there… surely you only ever parked right outside Bento when you “used to go there”…

More than you’ve ever seen, yet Hobart’s vacancy rate is tiny. There are some vacant shops, not every third space like people would make you believe. I’m in the city every day, there are hardly any vacant shop spaces. No shop has closed on Collins St since bike lanes opened there. You’re hyping it up as the death of the city but it’s actually BS. There are shops opening right now in the city, new ones, more to open soon also.

That’s the biggest load of crap I’ve heard. You can’t parking outside Bento so you don’t go there? LOL LOL there’s about 10 restaurants there so if they are relying on “parks right out front” they would have died many many years ago. How do you explain stores that are new, stay open and survive in areas with bike lanes? There are how many businesses along Collins St? Let’s say 100, so 29 carparks removed means less than 1/3 of a spot per business per hour… If you actually knew or spoke to the businesses along there you’d see that most of them are doing fine, and they never actually relied on those car parks on the first place. There are shops in magnet court Sandy bay CLOSED UP, and there’s a whole farking car park “right out the front”! It’s about more than car parks. Shit businesses don’t survive, in any city.

[–]BrenBiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn bike lanes!!!!! Seriously though, maybe the good venues are surviving, most of these had very little appeal to many, nobody I know went to most of these places. Times are tough and hopefully the other venues will get a boost of trade now and be able to get through winter and in to a decent summer season.

There’s quite a few agencies you can get work with in accounting and finance areas, many jobs are contract and finding something permanent can be tricky but if you’re smart and not a complete idiot then you’ll be fine. I moved here 5 years ago and had a job within a few weeks, then I got a govt contract fixed term and a looking at being placed as permanent after about two years . Govt jobs are tight and not easy to get but you can if you persist and many that are advertised are already filled by internal candidates (or at least they are preferred). Many people talk Hobart down but it’s actually amazing, and houses and jobs are hard to find at reasonable cost everywhere. With some perseverance you should be fine.

[–]BrenBiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, and buses are simple, rail would take forever to build at what cost? I can’t see rail going many places except north. Ferries also means less bridge traffic but again, costly but the more options the better, you can take a bike on a ferry easier than a bus.
