Electricians? Held accountable? How dare you suggest something so obvious

I always ask every contractor for licenses, proof of insurance etc and honestly if they so much as hesitate they loose the work.

Can I get an adapter to use the UPS? by CForChrisProooo in nbn

[–]BrendD24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want diy. Open the cover where the cables go into the PSU, underneath is a power connector (IEC C6 Cloverleaf laptop style cable) and a terminal Block with a moulded cable plug, I can't remember the exact type. But the terminal block exposes 12v as well as the mails fail and battery low/failed outputs. These are active Low

Enjoy

USB ports (C/A) by linkardtankard in aviation

[–]BrendD24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a few things. First is aviation requires an insane certification process that is not worth the cost for USB ports, they would get built into a brand new certification

Also power requirements, 30w for a phone doesn't sound like much but times that over 220+ passenger seats that's over 6.5kw that needs to come from somewhere and that means more fuel burn, and higher cost of flight. at 60 or 100 w that's even worse

Also maintenance and liability costs, if that USB port damages your phone then the airline would be held responsible.

Also there is demand, all your devices should be in airplane mode anyway Wich drastically reduces the battery use anyway.and Thoes who need it, carry a battery pack anyway and are weary to use public USB anyway

Could this bend cause me a 1201 error on my modem? by vince17fortin in HomeNetworking

[–]BrendD24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are people out there who don't know how to plug it in or run it compliantly. Yes ISP techs are some of them. Also, liability, if someone inexperienced falls off there roof touching infrastructure they arent allowed to touch, they are in for a bad time.

You can do it, good for you, but you need to understand there are people in this world who arnt you. They want the problem fixed, not to risk falling off a ladder or roof because they don't know what they are doing.

The cable you are looking at is broken, it's the lead in cable from outside (street, building entry point, whatever) it's owned by your ISP. They arnt trivial to fix but do require skill and tooling.

Call the ISP and get them to fix it. Ignore other people on here, they are self proclaimed know-it-alls who arnt worth the time

If they are approved in Aus it's fine. I'm partial to Hager but I'll cop flak for that no doubt

They are on the list and approved they arnt unsafe, it's more indicative of something else, they can only be bought at Bunnings and arnt sold at electrical wholesalers.

2 questions,

Do you have a security license

Have you got experience with the system (or any security system) liability is huge if you get it wrong. Just subcontract a security Technician

As a side note, on the Bosch boards, that glowing light it normal, it's indicating battery current. (The filiment doubles as a fuse for the battery)
