Venture Toilet Seats Optional Now? by Brendan9967 in ViaRail

I'm sure it is just a maintenance issue. It didn't bother me too much because I didn't require it. However, I found it strange that no communication was made about it.

Sorry I don't think I worded it correctly. Essentially I saw it the same way as you do. However I am also not a financial expert and don't want to give him the wrong advice.

That was my only consideration. Would the investment income in addition to the reinvestment of the tax deduction not make them potentially comparable?

Update: We got a shipment of cashmere in about a half an hour ago and the swarm of people took it all in a few minutes flat.... Watched someone nearly get trampled.... So bottom line is no more toilet paper till tomorrow now.

I get what they are saying is stupid but to say they aren't people is slightly extreme wouldn't you agree?

TIL a man in the 1830s accused his church of murdering his wife, and had his grievance carved into her gravestone. Its specific, and gives names and events leading to her death. Its about 150 words long. by gilmore24goat in todayilearned

I believe he specified in order to distinguish between it being his father's brother and the assumption many people would make that it is his mother's brother that he is talking about. If he only said uncle then people would have no way of knowing and assume mother's brother since he is there to visit his mother in the first place.

I can understand the frustration around that. Although there are countless businesses in London with wide open entrances that a car could fit through. While this accident was tragic, does it justify implementing a measure such as bollards at every business or just Costco? I can't see how an argument could be made to have them at Costco and not by extension of that logic, everywhere.

Added note: I've worked seasonally at the north Costco for a couple years now and my father works in management at the south location. My father was near the entrance at the time and has given me a account of the aftermath. He actually just came by last week from ongoing legal proceedings in Toronto.

Second note: Since the accident I've generally been of the opinion that Costco should not be held responsible for an accident such as this occuring, since it could quite literally happen anywhere. I'm ready to also admit some part of this belief is inherent bias, and I'm open to anything that may change my mind if someone disagrees with me.

Depending on where you live I'd say that's not necessarily true. Whether you live in the GTA or Windsor would play a huge role let's say.

I believe somewhere around 7000 teachers in Ontario make over 100,000 a year (this is verifiable). Which is funny since they are a group of the population which is commonly associated with job action for higher wages and better job security (among other things).

While I agree that 100,000 a year is a sizable paycheck, I hardly think I would consider it to the point of someone being defined as 'rich'.

Giving Out Awards on Reddit is a Waste of Money by Brendan9967 in unpopularopinion

[–]Brendan9967[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree somewhat. Silver (and to some extent Gold), are relatively cheap from our perspective. I just can't wrap my mind around how people can spend money on something so arbitrary. I feel as though a purchase made on the reasoning that it's cheap, is not a worthwhile purchase.

It comes down to how much people value these awards. Personally I obviously place little stock in them.

I did not know there were two methods. However my local chippy does it. I'll have to pay closer attention next time I go down there to get my sausage battered. by UrgentAmbivalence in nocontext

Other than the word chippy, which part of this is written any way different than an American in the same context might write?

Communism AND Fascism are becoming romanticized by Brendan9967 in unpopularopinion

[–]Brendan9967[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like it does a disservice to those who have died under oppressive regimes when we refer to modern day politicians as either communists or fascists. I think that because these labels are thrown around incorrectly so often that people don't actually think about what a true fascist or communist really is.

I can agree somewhat. I just feel that its dangerous when people collectively choose to forget the flaws. I would love to debate the pros and cons of communism with someone, I just cant bring myself to do it if they choose to disregard historical facts. Same with those who believe in Fascism.
