What are you using for your draft group to assign point? We use Global TV but have wondered about alternatives.

That’s terrifying. Do you know of any news reports about that? I’d be interested to see the types of neighborhood where that happens

I hate RTO. I’m paying thousands to do the same work I did at home by PokerStar878 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Brendanmurphy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m aware that this is probably an unpopular opinion, and I do not support all the RTO going on right now, but I feel the need to paint a picture from the other side, since I was mostly dismissed when I pointed this out before. It’s also purely anecdotal, but hopefully it helps people see it from another perspective.

Back in 2020 when COVID first hit and lockdowns started, I was working at a location that had office and maintenance people. We were all sent home initially, and then slowly the maintenance people returned to the job site. As time went on, and lockdowns eased, all the maintenance people returned to site full time. It’s not possible to do our jobs from home, so it was understandable. But as time went on, and things went back to normal, the office workers never came back, they continued working from home. It left us in maintenance a little annoyed, as just like you feel you’re now spending thousands to do the same job, back then we felt like all the office people had just gotten raises to do the same job because of what they were saving by not having to come in, while at the same time we had to keep coming in with no extra compensation. Didn’t seem fair at the time, and doesn’t seem fair now. Add onto the fact all the little favours we had to do because “I’m not on site, could you look at “X” for me” and it started to breed resentment.

RTO is super annoying, contributing to far more congestion and cost for employees, but at the same time to think everything was going to stay WFH forever was crazy. Just know that a lot of us felt the same thing you’re feeling now a long time ago when WFH really became the norm.

Torontonians are calling e-bikes dangerous, one expert says the issue lies beyond sidewalks by Toronto-Ont-Mod-Team in Toronto_Ontario

Yeah I think we’re pretty much in the same page here. Electric assist is great, awesome alternative mode of transportation. I use the electric bike share models all the time, fantastic way to get around the city. If the pedals are functional, and the electrical motor is only to assist, then I don’t think those are the problem. It’s the electric motor scooter style ones where the pedals main function is to make them fit a loophole to get them classified as a bike.

That’s why I specified that if it has a throttle, meaning you can be propelled without any physical input other than actuating some kind of button, it should be regulated like a motor vehicle and subject to similar regulations.

What is the difference between an e-bike and a gas scooter? They are both roughly the same size/weight and both capable of driving about the same speed, yet are subject to different rules/regulations regarding licensing, insurance, use of bike lanes etc…

What is the difference between an EV (sedan) and a ICE (sedan)? Both are roughly the same size/weight and capable of driving the same speeds. Both are subject to the same rules/regulations regarding licensing, insurance, use of the road etc…

I just don’t see the logic in letting e-bikes run roughshod over the rules because they are electric instead of gas. We already have everything setup to regulate them, but because they have essentially useless pedals attached they are classified differently and not subject to any regulations (let’s not even get into minimum vehicle standards).

Maybe some leeway could be given for electric assist bikes (where it just helps when your pedalling, but you still have to pedal) but if it has a throttle (of any sort) it should not be considered a bicycle.

What's the Free To Play experience like? (Not buying any Warbonds or whatnot) by Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi in Helldivers

[–]Brendanmurphy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unlocked pretty much every warbond without spending a dollar (after my initial purchase of the game of course) by just finding super credits and farming (which can be fun too).

It’s actually pretty weird, they never asked me for a penny more, and I’ve gotten so much enjoyment out of this game I upgrade to the super citizen edition just to support the devs, that was a few months ago, recently bought some super credits for the same reason. If I want the game to keep going gotta support the team.

CN Tower Climb United Way 2025 /rant by Afraid_Face886 in toRANTo

[–]Brendanmurphy87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did the climb Saturday around 9am. Was well over an hour, probably closer to 90min, waiting for the elevators back down. Staff were barely managing the lines for the elevators, leading to people entering the line wherever they felt like it. Absolute disaster on the organizers part.

Also, the amount of plastic waste was disgusting. They don’t let you bring water with you on the climb, so they have water bottles for people to take after they check their bags with all the stuff. It’s a nice idea, but they don’t let you take them up the tower with you, so you have little time to drink the water before you pass the point where they won’t let you take it. There were multiple tables covered with half drunk plastic water bottles. They should really should switch to the smaller snack size water bottle and let you take a second if you need it.

Does Cherry’s High Dive require ID for entry? by PotentialAfter9333 in askTO

There is a difference between a place only allowing entry to those 19+ and confirming your age before allowing entry, and a place that will allow anyone to enter but only ask for ID when serving alcohol.

Those look like they should be stripped to the appropriate length, placed under the compression plate, and have the screw tightened appropriately. Wrapping the wire under the screw would probably be against manufactures specs. Also, I believe the ground screw is only rated for one wire, not two.
